There is no marked crosswalk at that intersection. There is, however, an unmarked crosswalk there.

The applicable law: 169.21 PEDESTRIAN.

Subd. 2.Rights in absence of signal.

(a) Where traffic-control signals are not in place or in operation, the driver of a vehicle shall stop to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a marked crosswalk or at an intersection with no marked crosswalk.

Yes folks, drivers and cyclists are supposed to give the right of way to pedestrians even when said peds are in an unmarked crosswalk.

Correct me if I wrong, but 55/Olson Memorial is a highway. Regardless, sad news to hear. Glad the person who hit him stayed on scene and didn't run.

LauraLu HeurungAccording to police, he was crossing Olson Memorial, not on the side of James.

He was on James Ave, I'm assuming on the side of the road. This title makes it sound like he was on a major highway, doing something stupid.

So sad :( Must the City Pages always post such depressing news? I feel 100% more depressed after reading your updates.

@Onan According to Kare 11, a witness says that the guy in the wheelchair was swerving in and out of traffic like he had a "death wish".

@Talia Kay Are you kidding? No puns, no jokes at the victim's expense, no readily google searched copy/paste job. This is the height of CP journalism.

@kennyX @Onan  - Well that's a bit different. The scant information given that he was attempting to cross OMH was what I was going on. Thanks for the clarification.

/Drivers and cyclists are still supposed to stop for peds in crosswalks.
