Progressive Maple Grove church vandalized again: "Gay Pride? NO! Shameful Sodomites!"

Pilgrims United has repeatedly been targeted by anti-gay vandals.
Less than one month after Sunday parishioners at Maple Grove's Pilgrims United Church of Christ were greeted with "Church of Sodom" and "Church of Gomorrah" tags, pretty much the same thing happened again.

Yesterday morning, churchgoers arrived to find the building egged, locked with handcuffs on the front door, and adorned with new anti-gay graffiti.

According to KARE 11, the tag said: "Gay Pride? NO! Shameful Sodomites!" It also made a reference to Jude 1:7, a Bible passage that reads: "Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."

After the early June incident, Pilgrims United Pastor Robin Raudabaug described her church as "a very progressive voice in Maple Grove." The church was also targeted by vandals during the run up to last year's marriage amendment vote (Vote No signs were stolen from the property) and in May, when a reference to another Bible passage often interpreted as anti-gay (Romans 1:26-28) was inscribed on the building.

KARE reports that Maple Grove police are investigating the possibly "bias-motivated" crime, but no arrests have been made.

And Eric, it's a free country as far as religion is concerned. The church can do as it damn well pleases.

I never said stoned to death my rightist friend. And destruction of property is not the best way to express ones self. Find a better more intelligent way.

So, vandals and people who protest homosexuality taught in Church need to be murdered in front of a crowd with rocks being thrown at them? A slow painful bloody death for breaking a minor law or expressing yourself? Let me guess, another leftist, lol.

I never condoned vandalism. But a Chrisian Church that preaches against the Bible is dead wrong. You don't get to pick and choose rules to obey. If you disagree with the Bible, fine, I don't care. But don't call yourself a Christian. Btw, I don't agree with the Bible, as I find it crude and barbaric. I also am not a person who considers himself Christian. I don't have a problem with homosexuals. I have a problem with people who are politically correct against the religion they choose to represent.

People who do that should be publicly stoned. And not the good kind of stoned.

"bias-motivated" crime is no less a hate crime and should be handled as such.

Amazing how some folks feel so threatened by those who have an honest scriptural disagreement with them and thus feel the need to prove their maturity by spray painting a house of worship.

I'm just not sure why other people care so much.....Believe what you want, let other people believe what they want.  If you don't like how someone else thinks, then avoid them.  Plain and simple

I'm sure Jesus would be so proud of the so-called "Christians" who vandalized this church.

@Eric Kanzenbach Um, Dear half naked profile picture guy. Please tell me again how you don't get to pick and choose what part of the Bible you choose to follow? Maybe you should read the book once before you comment.

@Eric Kanzenbach I agree, because I take the bible as the literal word of god - i beat some of my wives and keep slaves.

@Eric Kanzenbach - "You don't get to pick and choose rules to obey. If you disagree with the Bible, fine, I don't care. But don't call yourself a Christian."

In that case Eric, I hope you take good care of your slaves, stone your children to death when they misbehave, don't eat pork, don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric, don't clean OR shave, etc, etc, etc....

Or you'd be a massive HYPOCRITE

@Eric Kanzenbach Sooo... you have a problem with those of us who want to take cultural context into account when interpreting obscure parts of a 2000-year-old document, but who still believe in its core message? You somehow think I shouldn't get to have a relationship with Jesus if I still live His law of love toward my fellow humans? Interesting. Good thing you don't get to decide that, I guess.

@robbyrob79 that was the whole point of why the amendment failed: some churches wanted to force their view of marriage onto all the other Christian churches, non-Christian churches, and non-religious people in the state. (I say some, because there are many sects of Christian and non-Christian churches that have been marrying gay couples for over 3 decades in the state and did not want the amendment.)
