Rep. Tony Cornish blames "liberal media" for hyping unrest following Trayvon Martin verdict

Cornish on Trayvon: "Don't hit someone in the face and bang their head on concrete. Hes [sic] not a child."
Minnesota's staunchest gun rights advocate, Rep. Tony Cornish, R-Good Thunder, took to Facebook yesterday morning to blame the "liberal media" for encouraging unrest in the wake of George Zimmerman's acquittal on all charges related to the February 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Of course, some would argue the controversial verdict itself might have had a little something to do with the relatively mild unrest that occurred following the announcement of the verdict on Saturday night.

Here's what Cornish, author of a vetoed 2012 bill to broaden the rights of property owners to use deadly force and a supporter of arming teachers, had to say hours after the Trayvon verdict was announced:

cornishComment.jpg

The comments below Cornish's post contain this interesting exchange between Cornish, Rep. Steve Drazkowski, R-Mazeppa (winner of our 2011 "Best Villain" award), and a mother troubled by Zimmerman's acquittal:

CornishComment2.jpg

In a later comment, Cornish clarified that "Though I believe it was a proper verdict, I wish Zimmerman would have stayed in the damned vehicle!"

Of course, if Cornish's 2012 deadly force bill would've become law and the Trayvon incident would've happened in Minnesota, Zimmerman could've lawfully shot him from his car if he merely believed he was in grave danger. Just sayin'.

SATAN’s LITTLE HELPERS-LIBERAL MEDIA, the SPLC & the ADL

The Bible describes the devil as the originator of sin. We all know he stays very busy. He appears to have a large mental capacity and he can be anywhere in the blink of an eye. Yet the devil is not omniscient nor is he omnipresent, so he requires underlings to do his bidding.

Although Satan has a host of demonic angels throughout the world, there is one area to which the devil finds himself mostly restricted. Satan and company are spiritual beings, which makes them incapable of acting in this physical realm. Satan's little helpers must be of flesh and bone. so this is where the need for human organizations comes in. In the nations where the devil has dictators in command, he can use them directly to control those countries. In the "free world," Satan has found the liberal media makes for an effective tool for guiding and controlling society.

The liberal media is not only the devil's best device for corrupting human society; it's his most diabolical device. The finger of blame is rarely ever pointed at the liberal media for society's ills. This is because the press is in charge of fixing the blame. Letting the liberal media decide if it's partly to blame for our country's moral decline is like putting tobacco companies in charge of finding out what causes lung cancer.

If you were to ask Christians whom they believe to be the leading groups conspiring to bring about the one world government, many would cite groups like the Illuminati or the Trilateral Commission. Conspiracy theories sell a large number of books, and many of these organizations are pro-world government, but I don't foresee conspiracy groups ever gaining the clout to achieve this task. I honestly believe conspiracy theories just draw our attention away from the primary forces that are laboring to achieve the New World Order.

The liberal media will be a substantial player in end-time events. When the Antichrist finally does come to power, the liberal media will be tripping over itself to report his every word. The values that the press currently portrays will perfectly match the values of the forthcoming Antichrist. It will be love at first sight.

The liberal media's final act will be to broadcast the hatred of the Jews and nonconforming Christians. Even today, these two groups are constantly reported about a negative bias. As we draw closer to the tribulation, the negative media coverage will only increase.

"Huffington Post’s Gene Demby seems to have dug up an old MySpace page belonging to George Zimmerman, the man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin and is charged with his murder, makes disparaging comments about Mexicans and details his response to a criminal case against him in 2005. The page was first made public by the Miami Herald. Zimmerman’s lawyer, Mark O’Mara, confirmed that the page is George Zimmerman’s MySpace, but has been unused for years. On Zimmerman’s legal defense fund website, his lawyers admit that the page “will cast Mr. Zimmerman in a less-than-favorable light especially considering the charges he faces.” “In that regard, it is possible that the statements Mr. Zimmerman made could be used as part of the trial, and therefore it is our policy not to comment directly on items that could become evidence,” the site read. The statement also indicated that the social media accounts of “all the parties” involved might come under scrutiny, and may be introduced at the trial as evidence. Photos on Zimmerman’s MySpace page show Zimmerman, who calls himself “Joe G.,” with groups of friends. In his biographical blurb, he discusses things he doesn’t miss about his former home in Manassas, Virginia: I dont miss driving around scared to hit mexicans walkin on the side of the street, soft ass wanna be thugs messin with peoples cars when they aint around (what are you provin, that you can dent a car when no ones watchin) dont make you a man in my book. Workin 96 hours to get a decent pay check, gettin knifes pulled on you by every mexican you run into!” In an August 24, 2005 blog post, he boasts about his relief about the proceedings in a criminal case. Im still free! The ex hoe tried her hardest, but the judge saw through it! Big Mike, reppin the Dverse security makin me look a million bucks, broke her down! Thanks to everyone for checkin up on me! Stay tuned for the A.T.F. charges…… A few days later, he expresses happiness that the other charges against him were reduced to misdemeanors. 2 felonies dropped to 1 misdemeanor!!!!!!!!!!! The man knows he was wrong but still got this hump, Thanks to everyone friends and fam, G baby you know your my rock! In 2005, a 20-year-old Zimmerman was arrested and charged after an altercation with a police officer. The same year, his ex-fianceé filed a restraining order against him and accused him of domestic violence. The 28-year-old Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old, on the night of Feb. 26. The case has garnered international attention, as many have called the case an example of rampant racial profiling, and have called for a repeal of Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” gun laws. Social media has played a major role in the case so far. News about the case spread virally on sites like Facebook and Twitter before it was picked up by mainstream outlets, and Martin’s since-deleted tweets were made public by the Daily Caller, a conservative news website. One of Martin’s accounts, called “NO_LIMIT_NIGGA,” in which Martin is shown with gold fronts in his mouth and talking about drug use, was seen by many Zimmerman supporters as evidence that the slain teenager was a hoodlum. “These were not protected tweets,” the site’s editor told The Huffington Post about the decision to run Martin’s tweets, which were from an account that was no longer active. “While he was alive, these were not outside of the public sphere in any shape or form.”

"He pulled his gun at the last resort after it was clear nobody was coming to help him." Zimmerman had no reason to in the first place had he not been stalking every person of color he'd seen in his hood. The call he made to police sounded like Zimmerman was chasing 17-year-old Martin, but Zimmerman claims the sound was just wind. According to the police it sounded like Trayvon was running away from Zimmerman. "You basically jumped out of the car to see where he was going? That's not fear. That's going to be a problem." Sanford Police lead investigator Chris Serino told Zimmerman when he questioned him. Unfortunately, George Zimmerman's rap sheet was never allowed in court and here you'll see he came very close to having felonies but got off maybe because his dad had some clout with the authorities.

Logic

So according to alot of people on here we should all be able to take the law into our own hands right?  We have police for a reason its their jobs to make the the tough decisions.  Zimmerman was a neighborhood watchmen his job is to watch nad report, thats it.  No one should have the right to become judge jury and executioner.  You guys are just going to take Zimmermans accounts of that night to heart huh?  Trayvon Matin is not here to explain his side of things.  People lie, especially when facing prison time.  But alot of people just trust everything Zimmerman says.  Dont be so naive and inhumane.  A child was murdered by a grown man.  What would you do if someone was following u?  I know I would stand up or myself.  Any of you who say that you wouldnt have confronted Zimmerman is a lie.  BOOM!

On a positive note, it's good that this has created a dialog for people to discuss these types of issues.

Keith Morioka

Maybe you should walk through Compton at alone at night. Not everyone in Compton is a racist, but it only takes one racist to either get beat up or killed.

Keith Morioka
Keith Morioka

I never said he was a racist. But Trayvon not knowing if he was or not, didn't know if the reason Zimmerman was following him was racially motivated or not. Being a minority, you have to worry about those things, you have to worry if you are going to be beat up because of your race... No, not everyone is a racist, but if a person is a stranger, you don't know if they are or not. I am a minority. I live with these feelings. You are not a minority, and you don't know my experiences being a minority. I can relate to what Trayvon was thinking that night more than you can.

Keith Morioka
Keith Morioka

That's true. I am not arguing that the decision was wrong. They couldn't convict, because they couldn't prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt. I think the state chose the wrong charges, and should have gone for something that they could have proven beyond a reasonable doubt, negligence resulting in death or something like that...

Tommy Tompkins
Tommy Tompkins

Not everyone is racist. Why does everything have to be about race these days? As soon as things start going down the wrong path people start pulling the race card. How do you explain Zimmerman mentoring young black kids if he was racist?

Tommy Tompkins
Tommy Tompkins

You're completely right. Zimmerman made some bad decisions. But when it comes down to the law, none of that matters and is rendered irrelevant. The only part that mattered (according to the law) was the beat down at the end that led to self defense. The jury did exactly what they were supposed to do and followed the law.

Keith Morioka
Keith Morioka

It's the reason I don't go into small towns in Minnesota. I don't know if there are people who are racists or not, and I don't know if I will get beat up or not being a minority. So, I just don't put myself in that situation...

Keith Morioka
Keith Morioka

And I will say this. Race did play in this a little bit. As a minority, when I'm walking alone, and it's dark, I am hyper-sensitive to my surroundings, and I would have been hyper-sensitive to Zimmerman following me. Why? Because I don't know if the reason they are following me is racially motivated or not. So if Zimmerman came that close to me, I would have potentially punched him too. As I would be scared for my life. I'm sure Trayvon was thinking much the same thing.

Keith Morioka
Keith Morioka

It's totally relevant. If he didn't. It wouldn't have happened. If I was walking home, and it was dark and raining, and someone was following me. I would think that person was going to rob me. There's only two people who know exactly what was said and one if them is dead. Zimmerman said he identified himself as a neighborhood watch volunteer, but if I was in Trayvon's shoes, I wouldn't believe him. I would be thinking, this guy might have a gun, this guy could be trying to rob me, I need to fight for my life right now. But if Zimmerman just let the police handle it, nothing would have happened. Trayvon would have talked with the police because of their uniforms, and he would hav explained that he lived there and all would be good. It's Zimmermans bad decision to follow him that caused this situation to happen.

Tommy Tompkins
Tommy Tompkins

The media has crucified Zimmerman and painted a racist wannabe cop picture from day 1 which I still have yet to see evidence that supports such absurd claims. Calling a non-emergency line to check out a suspicious person, getting out of the car to find a street sign / address to give to the dispatcher, and looking to see where a suspect went is a far cry supporting the claim of a racist wannabe cop that "wanted to take the law in his own hands." At what point did he take the law into his own hands? Wouldn't a wannabe cop have drawn his weapon and went after the kid? None of that happened. He pulled his gun as a last resort after it was clear that nobody was coming to help him.

Tommy Tompkins
Tommy Tompkins

Sure he didn't NEED to follow him but that's irrelevant. It's not a crime to follow somebody to see where they went. The dispatcher was asking questions about where they were and where he went. Zimmerman was just trying to give the dispatcher more information, not pursue and have a confrontation. There's a huge difference between giving the dispatcher information and pursuing a person to have a confrontation. A crime was committed the second Trayvon broke his nose. A crime continued as he pummeled his face and continued smashing his head in the concrete. He continued yelling for help and nobody came. What else would you like to happen in order to justify self defense? Do we need his brains to be poured out on the concrete before he can pull his gun?

senatortombstone

If the races were reversed, would the verdict have been the same? You mean if Zimmerman were black and Martin Hispanic, would Zimmerman have been acquitted? Yes!

Keith Morioka
Keith Morioka

And Really, it doesn't matter if he was out of the car already, it doesn't matter if he was almost to the T intersection. He didn't need to follow him. He could have turned around and gone back to his car and let the Police handle it.

Keith Morioka
Keith Morioka

I'm sure the Police in Florida say the same thing...

Keith Morioka
Keith Morioka

Keith Morioka
Keith Morioka

What part of "we don't need you to do that" means "sure, keep following him"

Tommy Tompkins
Tommy Tompkins

Also, there wasn't any proof that the "f-ing punks" comment or "these assholes always get away" comment had anything to do with race. However, there was evidence that these comments were in response to the criminals that were breaking into homes in his neighborhood. Show me one bit of evidence that suggests that those comments were related to race. I know you WANT to believe that they are race related, but the truth of the matter is that race had absolutely nothing to do with this case and it never should have went to trial.

Tommy Tompkins
Tommy Tompkins

Eva, you can follow somebody all you want. There isn't a law against doing that. A crime was committed when the first punch was thrown by Trayvon. Zimmerman screamed for help as his head was being bashed in and nobody came to his aid. He held restraint on using his weapon for a long period of time. What he should have done was draw his weapon after the first punch and Trayvon more than likely would have backed offf and went home without being killed.

Eva Chavarria Hunter

Closing statements given by one of the prosecutors: “Is it really self defense when you follow somebody?” de la Rionda asked the jury. De la Rionda summarized the state’s argument during trial, alleging that Zimmerman profiled and followed Martin and then lied in later statements to cover up the fact that he pursued the young man out of “ill-will and spite.” Those two elements of second-degree murder were evidenced by Zimmerman’s words to a 911 dispatcher, he said. “F****** punks,” de la Rionda emphasized. Zimmerman “muttered it under his breath”, de la Rionda noted, suggesting that the comment showed Zimmerman’s ill-will toward Martin. Recalling the testimony of Martin’s friend Rachel Jeantel, de la Rionda invoked Martin Luther King Jr.: “A witness will not be judged on the color of her personality but by the content of her testimony,” de la Rionda said, modifying the civil rights leader’s most famous words."

Anyone who continuously stalks 'suspicious' black men in his neighborhood over 5 times to profile them and calls the cops to report yet ordered to cease from doing so is guilty of shooting and killing Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teenager and a straight-A student, who was visiting family in a gated neighborhood.. "While walking to the store, Martin was on the phone with his girlfriend, whom he had been talking to for over 6½ hours throughout the day, the family's attorney said, citing phone records. "What are you stopping me for?" Martin asked a man later identified as neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman, according to the girl. "What are you doing around here?" Zimmerman asked in response. The girl said she then got the impression that an altercation was taking place and that someone had pushed Martin, because the headset fell out of his ear, and the phone shut off. Moments later, Martin was shot and killed. The details of what happened are still murky. Zimmerman has said through his legal adviser that he acted in self-defense after Martin attacked him. The family disputes that, and witness accounts vary." Zimmerman is responsible for being the reason why Trayvon's parents had to bury him.

BTW - 911 operators are trained to say things like "we don't need you to do that" for liability purposes. It's like if a guy is about to jump off a bridge and you tell 911 that you're going to prevent him from doing so they'll tell you "we don't need you to do that."

Tony Cornish and Steve Drazkowski are typical of the stupidity and racism that runs rampant in the Republican Party.  This is why 90% of black people, 70% of latinos, and 76% of Asians vote for Democrats.  Trayvon wasn't the first and he won't be the last but learn a lesson everyone.  Vote and change.  Politicians like these two scumbags will mean more dead children.

Tommy Tompkins
Tommy Tompkins

There's a reason why he was found not guilty. It's simply because he's not guilty AND innocent. No matter how you Trevon supporters try to spin this, you're not going to get the outcome that you're looking for because all of the evidence supports and corroborates with Zimmerman's account of what actually occurred that night. Let's not forget that Zimmerman's account was videotaped the day after the shooting when he had no idea what evidence was to be presented and everything that he said in the video matched up pretty much exactly with how it played out on the non-emergency line call. They even lied to him and said that the whole thing was caught on surveillance video and what did he say? He said, "Thank God!!" because he had absolutely nothing to hide.

Tommy Tompkins
Tommy Tompkins

Also, please tell me how Zimmerman would have had any time to break his own nose and repeatedly gash the back of his own head, when the police showed up seconds after the shot, and there were witnesses that came to his aid immediately after the shot.

kennyX

@Keith Morioka And Trayvon could have gone home (he was only feet from his father's house) and called the police and let them handle it. But no. He had to follow Zimmerman, confront him, thought he was going to be a tough guy, attempted to beat his ass into a bloody pulp and instead was met with a hollow point which ended his life.

Did they both make stupid decisions? Yes. Did Zimmerman racially profile Trayvon? Probably. Did Zimmerman purposefully set out to kill Trayvon? NO. He was defending himself. End of Fucking Story.

That is why the jury found him not guilty. Get over it and move on. And BTW, start thinking for yourself instead of letting the Liberal media do that for you.
