Around 8:30 p.m. last night, surveillance footage captured a vehicle pulling into the parking lot of the Walmart in Forest Lake and stopping just in front of the store's entrance. The trunk opened.

Seconds later, a woman came running out of the passenger door. Another person (witnesses say it was a woman) followed quickly behind her, and was able to the apprehend the fleeing woman about 20 feet from the vehicle. Arms around her waist, the woman escorted the escapee back to the vehicle. She then roughly threw her in the trunk, slammed it, jumped back in the vehicle, and the car sped off before witnesses could do anything about it.

Here, via KSTP, is footage of the incident:

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the people in the video. The car involved is a 2005 to 2012 dark-colored Kia or similar vehicle with out-of-state plates. Anyone with information is asked to call 651-209-9911.

two things about this story that upset me 1 the people of forest lake are so self centered and wouldnt help anybody and just look for the easiest way out has became pretty accurate fact. secondly i dont think the idea was smart but i actually think it puts wal-mart on the spot again and the community. whoever planed this out had to be some what smart i give them that much

If these people are adults they should have to do community service at a missing children's network location. I bet they will feel differently then!

My last three cars (all VWs) have all had levers inside the trunk, lit up, that open the trunk with an easy pull from the inside.

Like I thought it was.. folks, what are the odds of someone being in a trunk and as soon as they pull up to a big superstore the person in the trunk somehow manages to pop a trunk FROM THE INSIDE and takes off running... not gonna happen.. could, but highly doubtful - On the top note.. glad it was just a prank.

That's hilarious!!! I hope more hoaxes go off like this and waste police time and money!!!

Hoax or no, our community's first reaction to this or any situation should NOT be to discredit or dismiss. It should be one of concern and action. Maybe I am naïve, but that didn't look like a hoax to me. It wa scary to see.

Question: How did she pop out of the trunk? Can someone in the trunk open it from the inside or does the driver need to pull the lever? That's a key question here.

We were judging it as a hoax because it clearly WAS A HOAX.

THIS WAS A DUMB PRANK!

They conveniently did it right in front of the place.LIke the car actually didnt stop somewhere else where she could jump out. Then she jumps out of trunk and instead of running to the van for help, goes around to the front of the car?

Then watch how she stops mid capture and looks back to make sure she knows when to be captures.ANd then throws her back in the same trunk she got out of?

Loser trash needs a life and jobs.I hope they catcht hem and get in big trouble.Idiots

something's not right. Why drive to Wal-Mart to stage some kind of weird ass comedy like that? It makes no sense.

Looks like a kid popping out of the trunk and an angry mother stuffing her back in. Some people are just SICK!

Heather Hart

It looks like she popped out of the trunk, and someone ran out of the passenger side to stuff her back into the trunk. Awful.

Studies are showing that many people would just stand there idly or walk on by without even batting an eye.

It looks like a Mom and her daughter/son.. Here's how it went down:

"If you keep acting up, you're goin' in the trunk with no Walmart!! [Trunk pops open] ..daughter/son runs out and mom throws her in trunk.

All of you saying fake and hoax are the same people that would walk by and not help. Are we really that desensitized as a community?! This is a terrifying situation and your reactions are extremely frustrating. You have no idea what level of trauma that girl experienced nor can you criticize her attempt to escape. Unbelievable.

You would think that person Would be screaming and trying to draw as much attention as possible if they were trying to get away. Also why run away from the entrance of the store? Something just doesn't seem right. Hoping this is fake. Also do they have images of the people entering the store/leaving?

Dee Finkelson

that's what i dont get it either. So many ppl around didnt see what's going on around them? *smh* It might be possible to chase that car by foot by at least we can scream out loud for help

Kathleen Mostrom Lehman

WTH - all those people around - didn't anyone DO anything? I mean, it's not like it's normal for a woman to run from a car, have another woman chase her and toss her into the trunk! This is outrageous, and very scary....I've been to that WalMart many times. come on, people of Forest Lake...you can do BETTER!

MisterGodfather

The whole set-up looks fishy.  I think this was a prank similar to the one they did on the show "Jackass."  I could be wrong though...

Hans Dykema
Hans Dykema

I hate to say this if I'm wrong. But is this a hoax? That was about the worst effort of running away and resisting capture possible. Unless there was a gun that I couldn't see, I refuse to believe someone couldn't make if tougher to be pulled back into the car.
