Three years and nearly a billion dollars later, the Central Corridor is (almost) up and running.

Green Line LRT trains aren't carrying passengers yet, but this morning, they ran up and down University Avenue as engineers tested power lines above the tracks.

Here's a Vine video of today's tests posted by Kenza Hadj-Moussa:

And here's a photo from D Christopher Brooks: This week's tests are occurring between Stadium Village and the Midway area in St. Paul. Tests of the power lines above the tracks between the West Bank and Stadium Village happened late last month, according to a Progressive Railroading report.

In that report, Metropolitan Council Chair Sue Haigh is quoted as saying, "With these tests, the Central Corridor LRT project continues to make excellent progress toward our goal of opening in mid-2014 before the Major League Baseball All-Star game at Target Field next July. Construction is now 95 percent complete."

As the images above indicate, today's tests are still occurring with the help of a rail car. But according to Progressive Railroading, a Green Line train is schedule to travel from Stadium Village to Fry Street later tonight on its own, using power from the overhead lines.

About [blankity blank] time! Too bad I moved away from St Paul BECAUSE of the construction. Not to say St Paul was in any way easy to navigate in the first place... Bu I look forward to catching a hockey game or grabbing a bite on Uni or Downtown. Maybe it will revitalize the @saint paul art crawl.

I no longer live up in Mpls, but I hope this is money well spent (unlike Vikings stadium).

Finally! Public transit on University Ave! About time people have an affordable option to get from one place on Uni to another place on Uni!
