The group left the fair's butter cow covered in red paint with "FREEDOM FOR ALL" scrawled on the refrigerated case covering it.
Here's a photo of the aftermath (the view expressed in the tweet doesn't necessarily reflect our own):
In an email to the Des Moines Register, a representative for Iowans for Animal Liberation wrote: "After dismantling the lock to the refrigerated case housing the Butter Cow with a screwdriver, we doused the entire butter sculpture in red paint."

"The paint represents the blood of 11 billion animals murdered each year in slaughterhouses, egg farms, and dairies," the email continues, adding that vandals hid in the fair's Agriculture Building until it closed and then went to work on the sculpture.
The Register reports that no arrests have yet been made, and that the cow's sculptor was summoned and has already scraped the red paint off the cow.
