On the eve of August 1, 2013, Minneapolis City Hall transformed into a chapel of love.

White flowers wrapped around the banisters on the rotunda's grand staircase. White chairs flanked the Father of Waters sculpture. Around 1,000 revelers crowded onto five floors, there to watch as, at 12:01 a.m., Cathy ten Broeke and Margaret Miles became the first same-sex couple to be legally married in Minnesota, and Jeff Isaacson and Al Giraud became the second.

By morning, 67 couples had left City Hall as newlyweds. But there was something special about those first two saying "I do." As Mayor R.T. Rybak pronounced them legally married, the tears and cheers in the rotunda celebrated a trifecta: the public, political, and personal joys all at once.

Filmmaker Rebecca McDonald, of B FRESH Photography and Media, got it all on video.

Try to make it to the two-minute mark without "getting something in your eye." And be sure to catch ten Broeke and Miles's five-year-old son, Louie, twirling around about four minutes in, gazing up at the rotunda with the same look of awe that many in the crowd had on too.

How can any human being with a functioning heart or even the tiniest microbe of a soul watch this video and think to themselves that these people should be denied their chance to experience this moment?  Honestly, anyone who opposes gay marriage should be forced to watch this and experience the shame that they so richly deserve to feel.  Congrats to everyone in this video.

What an awesome production, thank you B fresh and City Pages.

Thank you, City Pages and Rebecca McDonald, of B FRESH, for this knockout documentation.
