England is not excited about Vikings football

The struggling, 0-3 Vikings are playing the struggling, 0-3 Steelers this weekend in England, in an attempt to show the mother country that American football is actually worth watching.

But it appears the British are not coming around to our way of thinking.

Vikings fans on Reddit decided to invade an England thread to teach them about Viking pride:

Unfortunately, some of the intricacies of the game seem to have gotten lost in translation:

Like us, they are upset that Chris Kluwe isn't playing for the Vikings anymore. Unlike us, they would prefer an entire team of Chris Kluwes.

They do think this Adrian Peterson fella makes a "jolly good effort." But the rest of the "purple club" are a bunch of ... well, maybe that word isn't so bad in England.

Of course, England isn't taking the invasion laying down. They've organized their own raiding party, so modern Paul Reveres will have to add "three if by Internet" to the alert code:

And if this infographic is any indication, the British are quite happy with their own tackle sport:

Has anybody ever looked into concussions caused by Rugby?

Goodell is a megalomaniac. Let the NFL manage itself first.

Historically, the Vikings plundered United Kingdom, in fact, Denmark issued an apology in the last few years for an invasion that took place back  in 1200 A.D. or whenever it was. They make the schedules out ahead of time so they got a rather poor selection this time at least based on the teams performances this year. But a lot of people love the NFL in England. The old BBC sports message boards attest to that.  Of course, traditional football / soccer is more followed. The owner of Fulham also owns the Jacksonville Jaguars. There has been talk of London getting an NFL club, not sure how that could work. Sure hope the Vikings can win, I suppose so... some people want the high draft pick, 2 of the games we lost were close and the 3rd game, losing to Detroit by 10 isn't that bad either.

Rugby has fewer concussions because in order to tackle somebody you have to bring them to ground and hold them there. No down by contact so players don't check each other as hard as possible though there are still some monster hits (youtube it if you don't believe me). They are both physical contact sports. I love football but rugby has much less game stoppage.

If you don't think rugby is tough consider this: at any given moment every player has be able to tackle a 300 pound lineman equivalent, get up, sprint down the field to catch a pass, become a running back and truck some one else with no time out in between. Plus rugby runs all year long so you have something to watch in the off season. I think everyone can agree that baseball's main appeal is an excuse to drink outside. There are some great Minnesota amateur rugby clubs if you ever want to see a game like The St. Paul Pigs, MN Blizzard, and Minneapolis Mayhem. Special shout out Macalester College's Men's and Women's Rugby teams.

Rugby players would be killed if they tried to play football.  Only stupid people think putting armor on makes you less dangerous.   I'd love to see some rugby wuss try to tackle AP.

The game is already a sellout (much like the NFL in many respects, rimshot) but historically only a tiny fraction of the attendees in the NFL's London games have been Americans or expats. Of course, if the NFL really wanted to expand its international appeal, it wouldn't send two terrible teams to showcase the sport. That being said, I want a NFL franchise in London solely to see the Daily Mail savage the living hell out of it.

Not a big surprise. They see us as trying to push our sport on them and it comes off as arrogance.

England has not had a good history of pleasant things happening when vikings from foreign lands arrive.

Billy Bragg talked about it at the concert at The Cedar Cultural Centerlast night - he predicted the 100,000 seat Wembley stadium to be populated with about 7500 vocal americans and not much else "we're not falling for this one" he said.

@NateP  - I used to play for the Gophers, Faribault, and Bloomington back in the day. I can usually end a "which is tougher" argument by stating that any sport in which one has to tape their ears back to keep them from getting ripped off is probably the tougher sport.

@stephenhero Yes I am. I was born in Canada to British parents. I'm not American. My parents are in England right now.

@Michael J. Kraemer So when teams like Chelsea and ManUtd come over to America to play friendly games against US teams, that's not Europe trying to push soccer on us? Nice failure of logic buddy.

@Onan @MicheleBachmann  Australian Rules Football is a real cool game too. No way, I could say negative things about Ruggers  and in fact, the lack of equipment would make me say Rugby is the more manly sport.

@ajlalk3 Not for the Americans who actually want to watch a decent match without having to cross an ocean!

The difference is demand.

@stephenhero I'll just take it for granted at this point you don't understand immigrants or immigrant families. Again, strange.

@stephenhero Would you tell someone from India raised here they aren't Indian? Someone from Iran they aren't Iranian? Strange to do that.

@stephenhero If my parents were from Japan would I be Japanese? I was born a British Citizen. I'm British. Sorry you don't like it.
