Minnesota will be the best place to live in 20 years, Gallup study says

We're number one! (In 2032...)
If Gallup can be believed, Minnesota's future so bright, you might want to start a sunglasses company.

The Land of 10,000 Lakes -- along with the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa (all those states are lumped together as the "West North Central" region) -- comes out on top of Gallup's "Where You'll Want to Live in 2032" study.

The study looked at state-by-state data pertaining to employment, economic confidence, optimism about the future, daily on-the-job learning, exercise, obesity, smoking, and even visits to the dentist to determine which areas of the country are best positioned to thrive.

Here's a map encapsulating Gallup's findings, with the dark-shaded regions ranking as the best places to live two decades from now (and vice versa for the paler regions):

And here's what Dan Witters's summary of Gallup's study said about Minnesota and our surrounding states specifically:
The West North Central region, which includes Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Kansas, is the region poised for the brightest future. Workers in this area are most likely to be employed full time for an employer in the type of good jobs associated with high GDP. Residents have the highest economic confidence in the nation, setting the region up for a strong economic future. They are also the most likely to report easy access to clean, safe water, meaning that this region is best positioned to address one of the critical resource challenges of the future.
So turn on your faucet, pour out a cool glass of city-provided tap water, and toast to good days to come.

@tessalr As a California boy living in MN for the last 20 years, I'd say it already is (to me at least).

Incredibly misleading headline. The study breaks down by region, and Minnesota benefits from being surrounded by states trending toward environments friendly to business. Meanwhile, at the rate things are going, Minneapolis will look much more like Detroit in 20 years. You can't chase out producers with mandates, taxes, and regulations and expect to foster a thriving economy.

@adriancumming Nice. My guess is that Minnesota is well prepared for the zombie-apocalypse too. Easiest routes to flee the city...

Having moved from there in 1979 to my heaven on the pacific.....by 2032, my ashes will be firmly embedded at the bottom of San Francisco bay and surrounding area but part of my spirit will still be in good old Minneapolis.
