Tony Sutton, former MNGOP boss, files for bankruptcy

2013 has been tough for Sutton personally and financially.
To put it kindly, when he resigned as chair of the MNGOP in December 2011, Tony Sutton left his party's finances in shambles.

Nearly two years later, it appears Sutton's personal finances are in a similarly dire state.

A tipster brought our attention to this tidbit buried in Sunday's edition of the Star Tribune's "Recent bankruptcy filings in Minneapolis and St. Paul" (emphasis ours):
Anthony Gerard Sutton and Bridget Mary Cronin Sutton, as surety for JC Food Systems and Sutton Enterprises, doing business as Baja Sol, as surety for IGH Cantina, doing business as Baja Sol Tortilla Grill, 8540 Bechtel Av., Inver Grove Heights; filed Aug. 23, 13-34121; Chap. 7; assets, $296,404; liabilities, $2,134,346.
As the above asset/sliabilities numbers indicate, in addition to running the MNGOP into the ground, Sutton was CEO of the Baja Sol burrito chain during a rough period for the company -- more than half of the chain's restaurants closed during his tenure, which ended in early 2011.

Finances aside, it appears Sutton is also going through some tough stuff in his personal life. Bluestem Prairie reports that his wife, Bridget Mary Cronin Sutton, filed for divorce last March. From Bluestem:
This will be Sutton's second or third divorce. As the Suttons have small children in the home, the dissolution of the marriage is not an occasion for joy.

Awe, the liberal commenters all demonstrating their ability to hate and joyfully lavish in someone down on their luck...

Good stuff!

Any time something bad happens to a conservative it is an occasion for joy to the liberals.

The only reason this story is in City Pages is so the mean-spirited leftists can gloat.

Yes, Sutton was a poor choice for the Republicans, end of story.

BUT NO! the only thing that would make you happier is if it were Michelle Bachmann, kids be damned!

So he ate the profits at Baja Sol? (Nothing better than 1980s humor.)

He ought to get it on with Amy Koch. One good hypocrite deserves another.

Or perhaps Tony and Mike Brodkorb should just end their GOP charade and hook up. Get those two in a room with a bottle of champagne and watch out!

Bummer for the kids in this case, although I think their stepfather is likely to be a fiscally successful guy capable of playing ball with them. I bet the soon-to-be-divorced Mrs. Sutton trades Tony in for a much better model, if not an actual model. http://j.mp/14VzBqO

So Mr. Responsibility is now going to stiff his family's and his business' creditors, to the extent that the courts will allow.  Dandy.  Meanwhile no doubt believing that the housing finance crisis was caused by Liberals forcing banks to lend money to minorities, and nothing to do with reckless risk-taking by finance interests who knew they themselves had no risk because they'd either make a killing in the markets or they'd get bailed out by the politicians they had bought and paid for...like Tony Sutton.

@TheConservativeJerk  Actually, Kirk, I hated and reviled Tony Sutton when he was on top of the world, too.

@sosmpls of course, if the shoe were on the other foot, your GOP internet trolls would never made any such snide remark about a DFL failure. keep kidding yourself.

is hypocrisy an ingredient of the GOP Kool-Aid?

@sosmpls It's not joy, it's self-satisfaction. There is no denying the pleasure humans derive from having facts back-up their worldview. Their is also no denying how frustrating and prideful and joyful it appears to those with opposing worldviews.

It would be best if everyone were personally divested enough to not feel self-satisfied when presumed hypocrites are exposed as such, but here we are. Most of us aren't academics.

What I imagine is most frustrating for those with a more conservative worldview is how infrequently they feel self-satisfied.
