Holidazzle parade is going way of the dinosaur after this year

The Holidazzle's downsized 22nd season will be its last, Minneapolis Downtown Council officials say.

The parades will be held only on Friday and Saturday nights this year -- down from four nights a week in recent seasons -- and next year, "there won't be a Holidazzle as it is today," Leah Wong, the Downtown Council's VP of events and marketing, told the Star Tribune.

According to WCCO, Holidazzle draws an average of 400,000 visitors each year, but the council's decision to "re-imagine the holiday experience downtown" doesn't necessarily mean businesses will lose out on all those potential customers.

Wong told the Strib that starting in 2014, "There certainly will be a holiday experience [that will be] bigger and broader." It just won't be called the Holidazzle.

So you can look forward to that. Or, if you're like yours truly and work out at the downtown YMCA and don't particularly look forward to wading through the crowds Holidazzle brings, you can choose not to look forward to it. Either way.

We should keep our traditions, make them better if anything and for sure get Macy's on Board with the 8th floor tradition. Good times are meant to be repeated not deleted.

can we please get Macy's on board with changing up their holiday display yearly like Dayton's did? I really think it's a shame my child wont' be able to enjoy Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, etc.

The downtown council has done such a great job with block E and most of Henepin Ave ,Skyway Lounge anyone? that they felt the need to destroy this. Oh free entertainment for families doesn't fit your plan? Idiots..

Going out on a walk - photographing nature is my idea of fun. And my one child was never bored, he excelled at all things he did, so not to worry. That is more than I can say for people whom need all sorts of frivolities to keep themselves stimulated - television, movies, and sports teams ... they are not able to think critically, let alone care about anything other than themselves.

B as in B, S as in S: It's always about the money. Target probably doesn't want to pay for it anymore, they are laying off about 150 people locally.

IT'S ALL A distraction folks, from what issues should be important to you ... like the economy, the decline of our living standard in the USA, educational standard as well going down the pike, lack of jobs, Obama's attack upon the veterans and older generation as to funding social security and medicare, medicaid, - all this is fluff so you won't miss legislated changes made behind your back - when you wake up later and wonder what the hell is going on (or what happened) and you are all angry about it ... Enjoy your ignorance I guess ... have fun :)

@atrupar The Holidazzle is eating smaller celebrations and about to be struck by a meteor and die in an uninhabitable nuclear winter? JESUS

That's .4% of all MN Target employees.  There are about 31,000 MN Target employees.  They're building a large corporate complex in BP off 610.  The actual numbers mean nothing.  It's all about percentage.

@Katsi Duzynski Time to go get the meds checked again, Katsi. Hopefully, with ObamaCare, you'll be able to get the affordable mental healthcare you so obviously need.

@TC4L Actually, Target is laying off 1% of it's corporate employees. That's 1 out of every 100. And, the Brooklyn Park Campus has been around for years, they are just expanding again.  It's all about the facts! (and the money)
