Report: Zygi Wilf hired Leslie Frazier because he's black

Zygi reportedly didn't hire Leslie because of his resume.
Yesterday, the New York Observer published a lengthy piece about the backstory behind the Wilf family's incredible wealth and the New Jersey lawsuit in which a judge blasted the family for using "bad faith and evil motive" in bilking business partners out of more than $80 million.

By and large, the piece isn't flattering to Zygi and company. But one especially unflattering passage addresses why Zygi decided to stick with Leslie Frazier as Vikings head coach after the Brad Childress era went up in flames.

The reason, the Observer reports, is because ahead of the major push for a new stadium, Zygi wanted to get in the NFL's good graces by taking affirmative action.

From the Observer:
One source familiar with the Wilfs' thinking says that, in meetings with other NFL owners, Zygi is "deferential to the point of ass-kissing," characterizing Zygi as a "kiss-up-piss-down type" who beats up those beneath him on the status chain while fawning over those above him. This source claims that the reason the Wilfs selected Leslie Frazier, without interviewing anyone else, was to alleviate intense pressure in the NFL to hire African-American head coaches, thereby ingratiating themselves to fellow owners at a time when they were asking the league to float a fifth of the stadium's cost.
With groundbreaking on the new stadium just a month or so away, that strategy apparently worked out pretty well for Zygi's bank account. But in terms of the Vikings' on-field product? A surprising playoff run last season aside, not so much.

Regardless of why he was hired, his ass (and the rest of the coaching staff) needs to go.

Why wont the the main stream media or the small local media outlets investigate Mark Dayton for his insider information about the vikes new stadium. I think he is more of a criminal then the Wilfs. You put the new stadium on land that you own. NO ones says a word but complain about the Wilfs. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

The N.Y. Observer doesn't speculate that Frazier's hiring had anything to do with being on the very short list of "next in line" head coaches? Let's see.. In recent years, the Vikings allowed Brian Billick, Mike Tomlin, Tony Dungy, Scott Linehan, and a few others escape to other teams, only to win Superbowl titles.. BUT, in Frazier's case, it's racism on the part of the Wilfs, not Frazier's genius defensive coaching mind that they could not risk sending him to another team??.. Well THAT makes perfect sense to someone that thinks head coaches should only be white.

He hired him because he kinda looks like Obama. Now look he's driving the team right into the ground. Just like Obama is driving our country into more debt.

Don't know or care if it's true or not. If it's true, then it proves that Zyg is actually as stupid as he looks. #TweetsAreYours

......So then Zygi is like every other President of a company?

Speculative bullshit. Frazier was a well regarded assistant under the great Tony Dungy and a popular assistant on the team. He was very well liked by the players, many of whom lobbied hard for him to become the full time coach after his interim period. His hiring made sense and was perfectly justified and wasn't just some token affirmative action appeasing move. Embarrassing lack of journalism that you even published this.

I love that there are fact or anything to lead to this racist assumption. The man may be a suck up or a rude businessman but that's not proof he is a racist or anything like that. Grow up

This story is bullshit. It's nothing but speculation. Leslie Frazier was incredibly well regarded in NFL circles for years, before he was even hired by Brad Childress to be the defensive coordinator. He wasn't just some "token black guy" that Zygi hired solely because he was black. He was a qualified candidate for the job.

Would make sense! The NFL is so strung up on meeting its quota of minorities even if they're not the best candidate...

and not because he was on the legendary 1985 super bowl-winning bears, a successful college coach, and a defensive coordinator on three super bowl teams

@Chris Peden Yeah, like starting those 2 unecessary wars and then giving massive tax breaks to the rich that cost the country trillions?  Oh, never mind - that wasn't Obama.

@TweetsAreYours What a stupid fucking thing to say.   You don't know or care if its true?   Then shut the fuck up and don't comment.   The world doesn't need to hear every dumb thought that comes in your head.   #TweetsAreDumb

@Jon Petron Yep, no black person has ever gotten a job for any reason other than because they are black.

What a racist piece of garbage you are.

@ajlalk3 Just awful journalism.  So unfair to Coach Frazier.  I think he is doing a lousy job this year but nobody had a problem with his resume when he was hired.  At most his race was the cherry on top.  He deserved the job if his skin was green.

@Blaise Koloc Because he was a well respected coach with a resume that included more than a decade as a productive defensive coordinator, DB's coach, etc.

I hope the kid in that picture doesn't grow up to be as stupid as you.

Yup. You know an asshole is an asshole when they judge you on your style, not your substance. Take a nap, asshole

You mean those 2 unnecessary wars that the majority of Democrats in Congress voted for?

Apparently, you have never heard of Affirmative Action.

@MicheleBachmann I may faint, I actually agree with MB on something. Frazier had the right credentials coming into the job and most of the homers were on board with the decision as well.

Not to mention he already had ties to the team and would make for a smoother transition than just bringing in the next flavor of the week from the college ranks.

You are a culture bully with no substance that seems to equate culture with intelligence. Take a look in the mirror after your nap.

@mingtran A moron is a moron when they lack basic English skills that we all should've learned in grade school or at least high school. How can anyone take a person seriously who doesn't have the mental capacity to accomplish that?  P.S. Most of your tea-partiers fall into that category.  Also, sentences usually end in a period, Ming.

Ok. Obama should be in prison and nobel prize revoked for drone strikes on children and fast and furious programs. Both sides are retarded. The second you buy into the paradigm that one is better than the other you've lost. You always lose. Stop losing.

MNjoe

@keny1 @MNjoe Yes - those - Congress was lied to about WMDs that Bush/Cheney/Rice knew did not exist. The 3 of them should be in prison for that alone. And even if the Dems had voted against the wars (and been tainted as unpatriotic by the A-hole Reps) do you really think Bush & Cheney wouldn't have gone in anyway? Even you're not that stupid.

@keny1 @MicheleBachmann ...and Keny is speaking from personal experience here - how do you think he knows all this stuff? He's right down there on the mall and Hennepin Ave.every night!
