Royce White's NBA career could be over before it began.

A first-round selection just last year, White -- a former Minnesota Mr. Basketball and two-time state high school champion, once with DeLeSalle and once with Hopkins -- was released yesterday by the Philadelphia Sixers, a team widely expected to be one of the worst in the league this season.

Given his checkered past and an anxiety disorder that makes it difficult for him to fly, at this point it's fair to wonder whether White will ever see action in a regular season game (he didn't play in any last season).

White is known for having a colorful Twitter account, and as news of his release circulated last night and today, he's tried to stay positive and take the high road (as Denny Green would say). He also hinted he won't be crushed if he has to throw in the towel on a professional basketball career: But White's positivity has been interspliced with retweets of people who are savaging and mocking him: White, however, does seem to hold out hope that his hometown Timberwolves might be interested in giving him another shot (he retweeted the tweet below): -- Follow Aaron Rupar on Twitter at @atrupar. He has earned his misfortune through lack of work ethic and no accountability for his actions.

Also, Austin, we know that Uptown wasn't bike friendly enough. Moving to Portland to be more of an elitist upper middle class white kid with no accountability was a great career move.

Amazing that you know another man's motives but feign outrage when others critique your outdated anger towards those with mental health issues. Maybe nobody should accept any contract because there is a possibility of recurring illness. Carry on.

Thanks Daren for that great insight on myself, you totally changed my opinion about how Royce accepted a multi million dollar contract that he knew he couldn't fulfill.

i truly admire his courage in being honest about his mental health issues, as well as his ability to remain positive in the face of such ignorant backlash. just because he is talented at basketball doesn't make it his passion in life, and maybe he has decided that whatever lengths he would need to go to in order to play in the NBA are not worth it for him personally. he is young and has his whole life ahead of him. i hope he finds true happiness and fulfillment in whatever he does next.

Any of you folks know someone with a TRUE fear of flying? It is a debilitating issue that causes people to do irrational things. If you are so sure that it can be overcome by "growing a pair" you need to do your research. Talk to a psychiatrist that specializes in dealing with phobias. And thank whatever deity you might believe in that it isn't happening to you.

The nerve of some people. I just can't comprehend how people think they have the right to say those awful things to him. Unreal.

I think that Royce will never play in the NBA again, seemed like he used his mental health as an excuse to get paid millions for doing nothing... The rockets even bought him a bus and paid for drivers to drive him to games, but that wasn't enough... He's constantly making excuses and always has... If anything he brought negative attention to the mental health community and may have dissuaded teams from ever drafting someone with anxiety disorder ever again.

Dumbass. Man-up and get over the anxiety crap already. No team is going to retain a player who can't play road games.
