Sign Jesse Ventura's petition to freeze pay for Congress during shutdown

Jesse Ventura's idea to freeze congressional pay until the shutdown is resolved is gaining steam online.

SEE ALSO: Jesse Ventura plans presidential run with V.P. Howard Stern

Ventura recently made the suggestion to TMZ in a video interview, and now a petition to that effect has gained over 300,000 signatures.

"For every day the government is shut down, it should be that we don't have to pay income tax that day because they're not working," Ventura says in the TMZ video. "They should all be voted out of their office for not doing their jobs ... and vote in everybody BUT Democrats or Republicans because this is what you end up with."

MoveOn picked up the idea and launched a petition, which you can sign here:
I demand that members of Congress NOT get paid during a self-inflicted government shutdown. It is morally reprehensible that hardworking federal employees will stop receiving the paychecks they need to feed their families and pay their mortgages, while Congress still gets paid for refusing to do the job they were elected to do.
Will you sign it? Let us know in the comments.

FELLOW PATRIOTS, WE LIVE IN A COUNTRY THAT IS RUN BY CRIMINALS. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS. THEY HAVE BECOME SO CORRUPT THAT THEY HAVE BECOME THE SAME. NOTICE THAT THINGS JUST GET WORSE IN THIS COUNTRY REGARDLESS WHICH PARTY IS IN CONTROL. WE NEED THE COMMON MAN IN OFFICE FOR A REAL CHANGE TO HAVE A CHANCE!!

I agree with the fact that we should not leave the President out either.  He needs to have his pay retroactively frozen from day one of the Shut Down and no retroactive pay if and when he gets it together also.

yes I will sign to freeze Congress pay during the shut down.  Especially if it is retroactive from day one of the Shut down.  Also none of  them should get retroactive pay when they finally get it together either.

Do you people all think these people (congress) live paycheck to paycheck like you?  They will get paid eventually, so what would this accomplish?

The intelligence of some is astounding...

Leave Keith Ellison and his choice to keep his pay alone.

Those government terrorists (House of Representatives) -- and that's what they are -- don't deserve a dime!

I'm not saying this isn't a good idea, but even if we freeze EVERYONE's salary, it still won't make up for the $300million that's lost daily as a result of not collecting the taxes and penalties owed to our government, by big business.  WE NEED to get them back to work!

Freeze it for everyone in our nations capital, not just congress, what about the senate, the president and all of their staff as well, who knows it just might be enough to pay off the whole damn national dept!

Kinda problematic for this go round as they'd have to be in session to vote for/against it. It'll never pass, though. Ever.

Lol. Someone should teach this guy Civics. Should we also fire the accountant when the HR guy fails to do his job?

Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) is a great Tea Party American. “I need my paycheck. That’s the bottom line,” she says.  She is a nurse with an Administrative Executive management job, married to a surgeon.  So she makes about $150,000 a year, and her hubby makes about $300,000 a year, and it's absolutely critical to her and her lifestyle to make sure that nobody else can afford health insurance, and that she keeps getting her Congressional salary after she voted to shut down the Federal Government to keep anybody else from getting health insurance.

Because here's the deal.  ACA (ObamaCare) is a backdoor subsidy to the insurance industry. It's not about health care at all.  It's about health insurance, which is a totally different thing. But this awful human being Ellmers not only doesn't know the difference, she doesn't care.  These rotten people would rather let people die than have to take a little less compensation to pay for their particle-board mausoleums in the far-flung suburbs.

You know what? I say let's let them have their wish.  Starve the government.  Let these awful people lose every last cent of their income.  When human systems  cease to serve the people, they are replaced.  People like Rep. Ellmers are the people whose needs stop being met, often with violence.. Buh-bye.

Used to live in Minnesota until I wised up and moved to

1. a warm place, it's in the 90s today

2. A place where we're smart enough to not elect a cockroach (or should it be cuntroanch? never can keep up with the PC jargon) like Michele Bachmann, although I can see why she attracts gay men.

Isn't there a constitutional ammendment that would need to be overturned in order to do this? A petetion won't.

kinda gives us more of a reason to freeze their paycheck, if they don't need it why are we still paying them during a shutdown. . .

Jesse Ventura is obviously too stupid to be elected.  Anyone that blames both sides is a complete and total idiot.   To blame Democrats for this shows you don't even have a basic understanding on how the government works.  Jesse's stupidity about politics and history shed light on why he's a 9/11 truther.   What a stupid irrelevant old man.

From what I seen and read, federal employees who aren't working is still getting paid.  But then Jesse says they don't.  Media outlet ABC says they do.

They don't get another paycheck until November - what the hell good would this do. Jesse is moderately entertaining in a clown sorta way, but taking his advise would be like taking Michelin Man's advise on skinny jeans. :/

Where is the petition to get Jesse to shut up. he left the state is ruin. rebated the rainy day fund and wiped out a lot of investments in the states future. He likes being a good example of what not to do.

Instead of a petition, what Americans should have done back in 2008 & 2012 was NOT vote for Obama.

@Mark Taylor   No one had their pay cut.    And why do you leave out the President?  He effectively is the CEO of America.

@shadeaux14 If you are from anywhere where it is warm today you have elected many people just as stupid as Michele.  The South and the Republican Party  is filled with dumbasses.

@Captain Hindsight  - It might go farther back then that when most of America DIDN'T vote for the eventual President.
