The Country Bar is for sale

At this point, it's unclear what the news means for the future of Country Bar.
The Country Bar, a Lyn-Lake institution for about two decades, is for sale.

Reached for comment this afternoon, owner Mike Wagner said he's "looking to get out of the business" and selling Country Bar's "name and assets."

The endearingly divey joint, known for its delicious chicken wings and raucous weekend atmosphere, was this year's winner of our "Best Dive Bar" award, and also topped our list of the top 10 dive bars in the Twin Cities.

News of the sale was first revealed in a Country Bar Facebook post:
The Country Bar is FOR SALE!! After 20 years of being a long lasting Lyn-Lake/Uptown Minneapolis land mark, this family business is on the market! Luckily for a new buyer, we are looking to move on to the next phase of life. This asking price is a steal and a great opportunity for someone who is looking to take over the best dive bar in the Twin Cities!
According to a posting on Coldwell Banker Commercial's site, the asking price is $329,000. The building housing Country Bar at 3006 Lyndale Avenue South isn't for sale, Wagner said.

@LynLakeMpls as the area biz assn, you could do more to make the sidewalk in front of that place a lot less disgusting. Screw Country Bar

All you people saying that "it's about time they shut this place down" probably didn't grow up in the city limits and probably just moved from some rich suburb.
This dirty, nasty, beautiful place is one of the last pieces of old uptown that hasn't turned into a  yuppie shit bar. Anybody that grew up in this city has a story about this place. I'm sure the same people hating on this place would rather have it turn into a Buffalo Wild Wings.

@BillLindeke If it were the Sunrise Inn on 46th and 34th, THAT would be news. . . .Also, tempting.

$329k for the name and assets?  They better have a solid-gold shitter in the back.

Finally! This place needs a remodel and new name. Who would honestly buy the Country Bar name? Like it had a good reputation or something? Its in such a great location and the perfect size for a good drink program. It could go far as a ramen/sake joint.

It's been for sale for a few months at least. I've seen craigslist ads for it, with no pics, calling it a small dive bar and grill. Also mentions apartments above it for potential rent.

Bring back Mike's (Semi-) Sports Bar..!! There was a full menu back then, including the Artsong/Shorty&Wags wings, back when wings were full sized, not pigeon wing sized. ;)

There's a reason this place is referred to by only its first syllable.

It was OK, before Wegs died. Very punk, and not for the faint of heart, but otherwise a decent watering hole. Then he died, and it got too hip-hoppy for me.

What a hole! Have only been there one time in my life and it remains the only place I have been 8Ed for life. On a 20 degree below zero day I went there for breakfast with a Native American lady I was dating and, when a bunch of Nazi skinheads persisted (for three hours) to make death threats to us and the bartender refused to toss them "because they're regulars". We were afraid to leave, asked bartender to call the police, or I would. She refused, so I did. Police came, we agreed to leave if they stayed there for a few minutes to give us time to get out of site. My last exchange in that crap hole: bartender says "don't ever come back", I turned to her and said "Oh - well that's going to take a HUGE chunk out of my social life!". Which got quite a few laughs, including the cops.

@jason.dorweiler Yeah, we certainly need more asian fusion places in uptown to go right along with all the 7 other identical places just like that within a square mile.
