Chris Kluwe tweeted the smartest thing during last night's Vikings game

Even more than we miss his leg, we miss Chris Kluwe's wit.

Luckily for us, the departed Vikings kicker--who led the charge to legalize gay marriage--is still actively tweeting during Vikings games, and last night he said the smartest thing about the two hot button issues of the NFL.

It happened while the commentators were awkwardly grappling with the story out of Miami about Ritchie Incognito, who is accused of tormenting his teammate in a variety of sordid ways.

Hearing this, Kluwe couldn't help but comment on the irony of this conversation taking place while the Vikings were playing the team from Washington that refuses to change its slur of a name.

Sorry Kluwe but your a freaking idiot on this one! The name Redskins is used with PRIDE AND HONOR! Listen to the fight song....HAIL TO THE REDSKINS, HAIL VICTORY.....even the native Americans in the surrounding states LOVE the name. Not one protest has gone on about the name in Washington D.C. nor will it. This is about as stupid as making UND change its mascot of the Fighting Sioux

It seems that the only people who likes this guy work for the city pages. Good thing you have your own newspaper to print things only you care about.

Wow, this counts as "brilliant" in this day and age? Why, because a (former) local celebrity said it?

I agree with most everything the man has said in the last few years, but I'm really tired of the blind hero worship every time he shoots another fish in the barrel. I don't doubt his sincerity, but I can't stand it when people seem to think that Twitter posts count as activism or even really matter at all. Did Kluwe attend the protest yesterday at the Dome?

The Redskins name, insulting as it is, doesn't matter much in the bigger picture. Native people face much bigger issues than the name of an NFL team. Chronic unemployment (40-50%+ on reservations), alcoholism, substance abuse, disenfranchisement from society in general... these things actually matter and affect real people on a day to day basis.

But I suppose it's far easier to just "re-tweet" sarcastic remarks into the Twitter echo chamber than it would be to volunteer time to help people in need, or even just donate money to a worthy cause...

It's not a fair comparison. While some folks may not like the name Redskin, it is not a direct attack on someone specific. Also, bullying is using a position of power to dominate. IMO, a football teams namesake isn't anything like directly picking on someone weaker or in an inferior position with specific disadvantages.

I guess that was Luke LaRock's freedom of speech moment.

Please stop talking about Kluwe. Please. I agree with his stance on things but I, and a lot of other people, can't stand him. He's just a guy whose in a shit band now. And if you must feature a weekly Kluwe update find a different, less annoying picture. But, I urge you to just stop talking about him. Most of us don;t care what he thinks.

Chirs Kluwe "led the charge"? Yeah, you're right. There weren't hundreds of people working at this for years. Let's give credit to him for doing a few interviews. Lame.

Bonus points for actually using the term "ironic" correctly. :D

@Joe Wannebo Stupid white guys don't get to tell members of other races what is and isn't racist.  You're pissing onto the wind on this one, guy - this will change very soon.  If not by the NFL, then by the courts when they rule that you can't trademark a racial slur (yes - look it up in the dictionary if you have one).

@dontbeone People can "re-tweet" sarcastic remarks AND volunteer time, donate money, etc. (which, by the way, Kluwe does.) Doing one has nothing to do with the others. Thanks very much - nice try.

@Luke LaRock Sorry, Luke most of us do - and obviously, since you clicked on the link, so do you.
