Simpson, 27, was arrested this morning on suspicion of drunk driving.
The Star Tribune has the details:
Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson was arrested early Saturday after a state trooper responded to stalled car blocking lanes on Interstate 394 out of downtown Minneapolis at 4:03 a.m., a patrol spokesman said.Simpson is currently on probation in connection with the marijuana arrest (he ultimately pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of "prohibited act relating to controlled substances"). According to ESPN, he posted $12,000 bail and was released from custody this afternoon. Formal charges are still pending.
Upon the trooper's arrival, Simpson exited the Dodge Charger and showed signs of intoxication, according to Lt. Eric Roeske. Simpson, 27, had slurred speech, watery eyes, and flunked a field sobriety test, so the trooper arrested him, Roeske said.
Simpson denied he was drinking and said he was coming from the Pour House, which is in the Lumber Exchange Building on S. 5th Street in downtown Minneapolis.
He was taken to the Hennepin County jail, where he refused a breath test, Roeske said. Simpson was booked into the Hennepin County jail at 5:39 a.m. Saturday, jail records show.
Simpson's first season with the Vikings was a disaster, but he's in the midst of a bounce-back season this year, leading the team with 491 yards receiving on 33 receptions.
