Mills Fleet Farm commercial advertises that store will be closed on Thanksgiving [VIDEO]

Mills Fleet Farm is proud to be bucking the trend and staying closed on Thanksgiving.
On Thanksgiving, Walmart and Best Buy will open at 6 p.m., with Target opening a couple of hours later.

RELATED: Will Target match Walmart's great deal for Thanksgiving workers?

But in a new commercial, Mills Fleet Farm trumpets the fact that its Black Friday sales won't begin until, you know, Black Friday.

"At Mills Fleet Farm, Thanksgiving is about family, food, and football," the commercial says. "Mills Fleet Farm is closed on Thanksgiving so our employees and customers can spend the entire day celebrating with family and friends."

"Mills Fleet Farm was built on strong family values and traditions. The holiday shopping season can wait," it continues.

Here's the video:

Family, food, football... and beer bong hits? But in all seriousness, it's nice to see a local company push back against "Black Friday creep."

A true Black Friday would be mostly layaway anyway.

I've never been this excited to not shop somewhere in a long time.

...close. Retail spending's fallen short of expectations the past few holiday seasons.

The problem with Black Friday is that it should now be called Black Thursday. The problem with Black Thursday is you the shopper. If you didn't shop like a bunch of Fat White Americans it would still be Black Friday. If you didn't shop like a bunch of Fat White Americans on Black Friday it would still be called "Friday after Thanksgiving".

but if they really cared about their employees they wouldn't open at 6 am and make it mandatory all employees have to work on friday either!. Unless your relatives all live in the same town there is no way to have thanksgiving together if you work retail!

I could not believe that even the dollar store is opening up at 8am on Thanksgiving! What kind of thanks is that to your employees! Kudos to Mills Fleet Farm! At least some companies still have morals and not greed!

I wonder if anyone knows they pay time and a half for employees who work on Sunday? They do now.

All the more reason for FF to say that they think people should be home with their family on thanksgiving rather than out spending money... even at their own loss.

Hats-off to Fleet Farm I guess, but I remember working a seasonal customer service job in college and I relished the opportunity to work holidays as it typically meant a shift-premium (1.5x, 2x) that helped me afford xmas presents. My family recognized the opportunity so we celebrated on the weekend. Holiday shifts were typically posted as a first-come, first-served and I don't recall the list not filling itself at the business at which I worked. I'm curious what proportion of retail workers are "forced" to work a holiday and if there is a shift-differential. Certainly someone has researched this.

Funny how it seems the usual let-the-market-decide types turn a tad hypocritical when market demands interfere with old-fashioned holiday sitting-around.

who lines up to go to mills fleet farm ? people line up for electronics on discount.. It's only business sense. They can't compete with stores like Walmart & best buy.

Hmm. These stories (more technically the folks complaining about how stores should remain closed) upset me because I am sure that there are employees who are very grateful for their hours... Some people COUNT on these extra hours (and in many cases holiday pay). Additionally Many restaurants stay open on thanksgiving... so do movie theaters... and every single civil service job (cops, firemen, hospitals, ect)... I haven't seen any petitions to ask those places to close...

people do realize that walmart and target and whoever are only opening because research proves there is a demand..if sheep wouldn't flock then they wouldn't open

Do people really think the other retailers are open because people won't show up...society makes this happen. Which is fine, that's what retail and or the food service is, shitty hours always weekends and most holidays. Ps you know that going in. I know where I work I'm gonna be busy as hell and we open at 6pm.

I don't care if they're handing out free ferrarris, I wouldn't stand outside like a fucking moron and storm the gates of some poor retail outlet like a goddamn herd animal.

Makes me sick.  Good for Fleet Farm for not bending to the madness.

Nope.  Likely it would be a limited number and people would like up for *weeks* ahead of time.  Odds of being there in time to get one are ridiculously small.  Everyone else is just a schmuck standing in the cold.  Also, a ferrari wouldn't do me jack shit if I lost my job over it.  I couldn't even drive it 6 months out of the year, and I sure as hell couldn't live it in when I lost my home.  Though I might be able to sell it and use the money to pay my mortgage for a good while.

Point is?  Lot's of hassle even if I did win.  Fuck it.  I'll stay home.
