Winona County GOP shares doctored image of Michelle Obama with gold grills on Facebook [UPDATE]

:::: UPDATE :::: Winona County GOP official dismissed concerns about decried Michelle Obama gold grills post

Sure, it's not as bad as the Chisago County GOP's recent "Pro-choice: Against slavery? Don't buy one" post, but really?

SEE ALSO: MNGOP Rep. Pat Garofalo suggests liberal blogger is a pussy

Yesterday, the Winona County Republican Party shared a doctored image of Michelle Obama adorned with gold grills and Barack with no teeth (it's at the top of this post) on its Facebook page. The point, we infer, is that's what your smile might end up looking like if you use the Affordable Care Act to purchase dental insurance.

Other posts published on the Winona County GOP's Facebook page within the last 30 hours alone suggest gun control laws lead to genocide...

WinonaCountyGOP1.jpg

... characterize socialists as lazy parasites...

WinonaCountyGOP3.jpg

... and commit the fallacy of Reductio ad Hitlerum in trying to link liberalism with Nazism:

WinonaCountyGOP2.jpg

Because God forbid anybody tries to make a political point these days without ridiculous fear mongering or alluding to racial stereotypes.

:::: UPDATE ::::

This afternoon, the DFL released a statement blasting the MNGOP for not speaking out more strongly against the controversial posts recently published by the Chisago and Winona County branches of the party.

Here's DFL Executive Director Corey Day's entire statement:
Once again actions speak louder than words. While the Republican Party says it is welcoming to communities of color, a local unit, the Winona County Republicans, posted a racist and revolting image on its Facebook page. This comes only weeks after the Chisago County Republicans posted an offensive image on its Facebook page.

The Winona County post shows First Lady Michelle Obama smiling broadly through a grill of gold teeth and President Barack Obama with no teeth at all. I am outraged by this stereotype of African Americans.

As executive director of the Minnesota DFL, I challenge the Republican Party leadership to stop the ignorance and hatred and call on their members to treat not only our President and his family, but all people of color with the respect they deserve.

The right has failed --- utterly failed -- to provide the necessary reform, nor do they have any real interest in doing so.

The right fails in every way; they are morally and ethically bankrupt as well as bankrupt of ideas and solutions.

So, to get back to the point, this image is just one more example of their attempts to demean someone who DID do something about a very serious problem that could potentially destroy all of us if we DON'T address it, because they have to; otherwise their own short comings become too glaringly apparent.

Shame on the right.  To paraphrase a line I heard this weekend used on the new pol com on Amazon.com.

"John Stuart Mill, back in the 19th century, observed that while not all conservatives are stupid, more stupid people are conservative.  That was then.  Nowadays Stupid and Stupid's mutant cousins, Crazy and Evil, are all that is left on the right."

Added to that should be the mutant cousins idiot children, Hateful and Racist.

The R Party should just shorten it up to Racist. It's shorter, easier to spell and a far more accurate descriptor than that 4 syllable clunker they've been dragging around since the century before last.

The problem is, the MN GOP thinks this IS treating people of color with the respect they deserve.

It is also their established policy of how they treat their opposition, including with misrepresenting issues.

That's because the facts are not the friends of conservatives, nor apparently is good taste and civility.

Fortunately, Minnesotans are developing an allergy to nuts - to political extremists like this.

Some Memes expose how crass folks can be. When you don't have a real point all you can attract is the messenger and not the message. Fear of finding out that your world is changing and leaving you behind is the GOP stock in trade.

I don't find the doctored up image racist as much as I find it in poor taste. If they are trying to make a point of the failure of Obamacare, instead of resorting to juvenile tactics, why not take the adult approach and simply state facts?

Politics in this nation is truly disgusting (on both sides) and it needs to change. Sadly, the media (including City Pages) only encourages this Us vs. Them mentality. The 2-tier political system is NOT working. We need to wake up and realize this before the United States collapses. Socialism is NOT the answer. But neither is elitist Capitalism. I honestly don't know what the answer is, but the current political climate is dividing this nation almost to the point of physical violence. Read the comments on this blog. It is filled with nothing but hate and vitriol. Is this the future of America that you want?

The reality is that the right has done far more to drive out anyone who is not a racist, Glenn Beck/Fox News/Rush Limbaugh listening low information bigot.

The left and center haven't engaged in comparable purity purges, therefore it is a much more fair and accurate characterization of the right.

Another thing that they would realize is that the average Minnesotan paid $17000 in federal income taxes in 2012; which is #2, just behind Conneticut with its disproportionate (New york commuter) billionaire population.

On average, Minnesota pays the most and recieves close to the least.  Nothing Socialist about that, just anti-Minnesota masochist.

j.reiter
j.reiter

Actually, the foundation of the DFL is Farmer Labor, who's policies were socialist and tied to the socialist movement in Germany.  The only difference now is that the Socialists (DFL) are too dumb to realize that the Communists (DNC) have taken over the national party.

Otherwise they would realize that the Federal government spent $3.5 trillion in 2012, which is enough to build 4000 Hoover Dam sized projects.. how many of those mutually benefitial infrastructure projects are you aware of getting started last year?  None, all the money goes to the party on the East coast.

Only Minnesota has a Liberal party honest to admit it's Socialist.

@j.reiter  Read it again. The source you cited says not one word in support of your statement about Democrats bringing in millions of illegal immigrants.

There are no 'facts' there to deny.

It has some idle speculation at the end that this grace period for the family members of those serving in our armed forces that this might attract more illegal immigrants, but nothing that indicates there ARE more illegal immigrants in large numbers coming to the U.S.

Further, that Obama has deported more illegal immigrants than any other president, not the opposite, IS a fact.

So try again, this cite is a failure to support an inaccurate claim by you.  I doubt you will find anything else to support it either.

YOU LOSE.

j.reiter

Dog Gone
Dog Gone topcommenter

@j.reiter
You don't read well for comprehension; this doesn't support your contention that Democrats are IMPORTING or BRINGING IN millions of illegal immigrants.

Those who seek to get their legal citizenship by serving in our armed forces, is a valid means to do so.  NOTHING in the article said word one about bringing in any new individuals; it simply delays the deportation of undocumented immigrants who are already here to give them more time to do their paperwork, out of respect for the service of their family members.  Good for Obama..

But in a larger context, Obama and the Dems have deported more undocumented immigrants than any other president.

So, one more example of you promoting a lie.

Or......do you have an actual source for your claim? Because this isn't one.

Try again.

@j.reiter @Dog Gone @WatusiJenkins

I don't deny facts, I deny accounts that don't match up with facts.  And his coverage is not wrecked, since he hasn't lost it.

You haven't provided facts - including for you assertion that Democrats are illegally importing millions of immigrants.

Produce your source, or admit it is nothing but pure crap.

You've claimed things like Obama is a terrible president - yet presidential scholars say otherwise, and they should know, it's their area of expertise.

You keep insisting Obamacare is going to fail, but the reality is that every other place it has been used it has worked great.

You claim that sign ups are failing; they aren't., even if they are below optimum desired results at this point. That is not the same thing as failing.

And you have claimed that if anything goes wrong with Obamacare, it is because there is something wrong with the program and we shouldn't blame republicans -- the reality is they Republicans have unrelentingly tried to destroy it.  Including the 16 separate attempts found so far of right wing hacker attacks on Obamacare.

@Dog GoneGawd, you are such a douche bag.

Let me get this straight.. I ask you for some original content for you to prove to me that you are not parroting talking points and you come back and accuse me twice of the same thing, using the same language that I used.  On top of that, you come out of left field and ask for my sources!? are you seriously that mentally fucked that you cannot formulate your own ideas without a someone else telling you what to think? do you even recognize the hypocrisy in your statement?

Here is a source, if you would read what other people post instead of being such a bully with your own undeveloped thoughts you would have seen @WatusiJenkins account of what happens, his coverage is completely wrecked and he is going to have to pay substantially more, and you completely denied his story. You are a denialist of facts, and you justify tyranny.  Also just because you write a whole bunch of nonsense doesn't make what you say true.

Nah, I just familiarized myself with a more realistic expectation, plus factored in things like denial of service attacks, and figured that given the remaining time available, there's no rush and no reason for concern.  What they did in CO does offer an interesting 'tweek'.  But many states, for example, Kentucky, are doing well.  We have great rates here, and we'll do just fine in MN over time.

http://www.coloradoindependent.com/144693/colo-obamacare-launch-on-track-with-mass-romneycare-launch

"Obamacare in Colorado is outpacing Romneycare in Massachusetts when you compare 2013 early enrollment numbers here to 2007 early enrollment numbers there.

The latest figures from Colorado’s health insurance marketplace show 3,408 Coloradans are now covered through the marketplace, while another 52,542 have signed up for accounts. In the first month Massachusetts opened its pioneering insurance exchange, informally known as Romneycare, only 123 people enrolled. Romneycare served as the blueprint for Obamacare.

Ben Davis, a media representative for the Colorado Exchange called Connect for Health, said the two most important metrics when looking at Colorado’s exchange is traffic to the site and the accounts created. Connect for Health said the average daily number of visitors to the website has been 11,753 — or more than 350,000 in the first month.

“That is a substantial audience,” Davis said.

Many of the unique visitors are taking advantage of the anonymous shopping option available to Colorado consumers. Most other states, including every state running the federal HealthCare.gov marketplace, require consumers to create an account before they can shop for insurance.

36,000 enrollees bought Romneycare in 2007, 20 percent of whom did so in the month before the individual penalty kicked in."

Your coverage did not fit the criteria of the ACA - so you shouldn't get covered under the ACA.

I don't believe you that the least expensive plan would cost you more than $5k a year or that the deductible is higher - any more than I believe you that the Democrats are bringing in millions of illegal immigrants.

You should be glad that plans offer mandatory maternity care; the birth rate is way down for women in this country, for planned pregnancies.

But then you probably don't need contraception either, LOL.

Btw, some 7 million are already taking advantage of Obamacare, by being enrolled under their parents coverage until they are 26.  The really hilarious thing? Two separate polls show this has been used by more Republicans than Democrats (look it up).

Dog Gone
Dog Gone topcommenter

@WatusiJenkins @j.reiter Nah, the ACA is actually AHEAD of where similar plans are in the early days, including in percentage terms well ahead of the numbers who signed up for Romneycare.

It is not a tax, but it is a damned good idea.

Dog Gone
Dog Gone topcommenter

@j.reiter   Yes, government is the answer.  The private sector is incapable of making the necessary changes without it.

NO, Obama has not proven "he is incapable of managing anything"; do you ever do anything more than parrot right wing BS?

And the notion that 500 time more people have lost their coverage with the ACA than have a new plan is also BS.

And the notion that Democrats are illegally importing millions of immigrants is just crap.

So is the notion that anyone who disagrees with the President is called a racist -- more BS.

And you really should try to be even remotely factual when talking about who 'fixes' elections - the Republicans are notorious for it, and have far more convictions for doing so.

But please -- provide your sources.  I doubt you know a valid source from pure bullshit, because if you did, you wouldn't make such ludicrous statements.  You wouldn't know a fact or proof if it bit you in the arse.

WatusiJenkins
WatusiJenkins

@j.reiter

The main reason why the ACA will fail (aside from cost) is that the number of people who were expected to sign up for the plan is not meeting expectations (miserably, I might add). According to a CBS article, the vast majority of people who have signed up are people who will receive it 100% subsidized (i.e. free) at the tax payers' expense. But remember, Obama said it was not a tax. LOL!

WatusiJenkins
WatusiJenkins

@j.reiter

As an example, I am an independent contractor who (luckily) did not get my coverage cancelled as it fit the criteria of the ACA. Out of curiosity, I went to MNSure to compare coverage to my current plan. The least expensive plan would cost me $5000 more a year (with an outrageous deductible). In addition, that plan would have included maternity coverage. Which would be fine except that....I am a man. This thing is becoming more and more of a joke everyday.

j.reiter
j.reiter

I agree that all of the things you mention are horrible but the government is not the answer. President Obama had proven that he is incapable of only giving speeches and has no aptitude to manage anything, let along a program that encompasses 20% of the US economy. You complain about people not having healthcare, are you aware that 500 times more people have lost their coverage with the aca than have got a new plan? Are you aware that the Democrats are attempting to import millions of immigrants (illegally) when we are having problems employing or own people? Are you aware that any time someone disagrees with the President they are called a racist?

And who do you think is going to fix all this? Barack Obama? LOL! The only thing he knows how to fix is an election.

Dog Gone
Dog Gone topcommenter

@j.reiter  And I'm not your homie, nor am I retarded; my IQ is in the top percentile.  I was reading college level text books in elementary school. I doubt you were - or are now, apparently.

Here is something for you to think about. We have a broken health care system, tens of millions of people are unable to get health care coverage or afford health care.  As a result they don't get care unless they are desperately ill.

Most of those same people work for minimum wage, often in food or food-related industries, or in cheap retail (like Walmart), where they don't have health insurance.  They work sick.

Most of the writing and research I do is as an economics wonk.  I spend long hours reading stuff so dry it makes most people's eyes bleed - or feel like they are.  For FUN I like to read science papers, particularly in certain areas of medicine or biology.  One of the categories of those kinds of research I've been reading over the past few years has to do with the increased risks of epidemic and pandemic, as global travel has expanded.  Another is in the area of the increase in antibiotic diseases, both from new illnesses and mutations of known illnesses.  I've also been in the habit of reading up on the lack of new research in antibiotics, because big Pharm finds it more practical to come up with yet another boner pill for old limp dick men.

So those factors, outlined in what I've read, suggest we are at risk for rapid transmission of pandemic illnesses, that we don't have a system where people will seek out medical care that will identify it, isolate it, or treat it, and that we have the people most likely to be sick and without medical care working in the areas that will guarantee the maximum transmission opportunities for a pandemic illness or illnesses plural.

We NEED to find a system that provides more and better care, most cost effectively, for those tens of millions of people.  We NEED to get them health care, including good access to affordable preventable care.  We need to be sure these people are not already more vulnerable to disease because of poverty and malnutrition.  Because if we DON'T, no amount of health care will be adequate even if you have a cadillac health plan, in the face of a pandemic -- EVERYONE will be vulnerable because we did not take care of health care reform.

It's more a matter of when than if.

And the hard reality is that the right for the past three presidencies they've held and for the terms where they held a majority in Congress DID NOTHING, have no plans to make those improvements, have engaged in the worst forms of greedy short term thinking, including wealth redistribution to the richest fraction of the top 1%.

That kind of stupid, including the kind they demonstrate now, puts us all at risk.  The right continues to have no alternative to a broken system that is genuinely dangerous to all of us, not just those tens of millions without health care currently.

So we need to raise the damned minimum wage -- a lot.  And we need to implement a good sound working health reform system -- like Obamacare.  Because the alternative of not doing so is negligent and irresponsible and bone rotting ignorant.

I'd be happy to provide you a list of scientific papers to that effect that are far more intelligent and compelling than your arguments or any silly videos.
