:::: UPDATE :::: DFL blasts Republicans for politicizing Minnesota Twins

"1991 -- the Twins win, Collin Peterson goes to Congress. A lot has changed since then, and so has Collin Peterson," the narrator of the ad says. "Peterson supported trillions in new spending and voted to raise the debt ceiling seven times to pay for it."

"Now he's helping President Obama pile up debt. He even voted against a common-sense plan to balance the budget," the ad continues. "No surprise the national debt has exploded -- more than four times what it was when the Twins won and Peterson went to Washington."

"After 22 years, Minnesota could use some relief from Collin Peterson's spending," it concludes.

Here's the audio:

As a Democratic source in D.C. put it, "What would MLB or the Twins say about being used for political purposes?" We've reached out to the organization for comment.

Peterson comfortably won reelection last year with over 60 percent of the vote, but he has a target on his back because his western Minnesota district leans to the right -- 54 percent of voters there cast their ballots for Mitt Romney.

Using the Twins championship as a time reference is irrelevant and has nothing to do with the Twins. If the ad wanted to be factual, it would say, "Collin Peterson is a piece of crap just like the Twins organization."

Exactly how is the twins being used against him? By using the twins as a time reference ?
