Some Metrodome seats were dismantled by fans following finale [PHOTO]

As the photo at the top of this post indicates, there were tons of security guards working yesterday's Vikings game, which will go down in history as the last event held at the Metrodome.

Officials were doing everything possible to prevent a repeat of what happened following the last Vikings game at Met Stadium in December 1980, where fans surged down from the grandstands to dismantle goalposts and cause a ruckus in general (see video of that here).

Yesterday's law-and-order effort was mostly successful. Today's Star Tribune cover sums it up: But some fans were nonetheless able to exit the Dome with illicit souvenirs: If you didn't bring a screwdriver and lots of liquid courage to the Vikings finale but would still like to obtain a (whole) Dome seat, you can find out how to buy one here. The blue plastic monstrosities classics cost upwards of $60.

Sorry I forgot to the trough the only thing the metrodome had on any one where 50 guys could relieve themselves and pretend not to rank their junk in comparison to the next guy.

Same thing happened when they tore down the Met Center.

Wow. Those seat backs will come in handy for...for.....ah. (Stupid is as stupid does.)

Stealing is stealing. They could buy them at action just like the rest of us.

Since they are getting a new one sooner than not, I'm not sure we really should care. On the other hand... WHY?!? I mean if we were a winning team, a Super Bowl qualifying team, I could maybe see wanting too, but... NO.

Who cares? Why are people upset by this? What I think is criminal is selling the seats! Who is profiting from that? The millionaire and billionaire owners who are forcing the tax payers to pay for the new stadium?

Who wouldn't want a piece of history. I mean all those Super Bowl wins over the years....oh wait....oh. Well. hmmm. Awkward.

Interesting how a 60 million dollar building that was built for 3 teams worked for 32 years, still makes money even today is replaced with 3 buildings for 2 billion dollars! Hmmmmm

Obviously. But just what are they going to DO with it? Hang it on the wall? Make some sort of yard art?

Considering they rightfully own them - as taxpayers. It's not theft like the taxes which paid for the place.

In this picture I can see that a lot of people don't know what a TRASH CAN looks like.

On the one hand, I could see the sentimental value, especially if you could get your hands on the seat where you proposed to your wife. On the other hand, who proposes at the Metrodome?

Souvenirs of the time that we scrapped a paid off stadium so that we could pay for a brand new stadium, so that we could keep a football team (which is part of a for-profit business) that can't seem to find a win with a map and a tour guide. Wooooo.

I love it. That's why I live in Northern Mn. I can watch in my own styled livingroom.

Now ardent Twin City sports fans can enjoy the same level of "dome-style" comfort in their own living rooms - ad infinitum! For maximum MOA field virtual reality when watching Twins baseball at home, aim your Hump-Dome seat six feet left of your TV toward an imagined third base and crane your neck for three hours! For Vikings football, pay your neighbor $25 to park in his driveway at 10:30 am, walk 7 blocks in -10 wind chill, then pay $10.50 for a Miller Lite then wait 17 minutes to pee next to a guy with a Cheesehead on! Now YOU TOO can play at home!

What's the point, they only got the backs, not the full seat...

I believe the word that was spread was "Don't Take Metrodome Property". But they failed to take into account the boneheaded portion of the population. That would have required chiseling it in a stone tablet for them.

Paid for with tax dollars... looks like someone got there return a little early... and the state save on a load or two to the landfill,, So it's a WIN- WIN.. :-)

So all they took was the backrest of the seat? Stupid. Also, I'm not sure why they were expecting a riot. Its not like we had a winning season, or even a reason to be excited about just paying for a new roof for the dome only to have it torn down soon....great pic..but honestly? Come on

So, by that logic, do you go to a MNDot shed and take a snowplow to plow your driveway or do you take a mower that they use to mow around the Capitol building to mow your lawn in the winter? I was raised to not take anything that I myself hadn't personally paid for. I'm neither pro or anti state funding of stadiums.

Man, I hope they start playing the games on TV in the Twin Cities soon so the rest of us can do this :(
