Authorities say they cannot prove that the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis violated mandatory reporting requirements in connection with convicted former priest Curtis Wehmeyer.

No charges will be filed against church officials in this instance, though Ramsey County Attorney John Choi told reporters Wednesday that he's "troubled" by other cases that have come to his office. He vowed that this is "only the beginning" of their investigations.

Wehmeyer is now serving time in St. Cloud prison. Church officials first contacted police in 2012 with reports that Wehmeyer may have sexually abused two boys while serving as pastor of Blessed Sacrament in St. Paul. The archdiocese claims to have taken quick and decisive action, but an in-depth MPR report suggests that it was aware of the allegations as early as 2004.

St. Paul police complained last year that clergy gave Wehmeyer a day's head start on police, which allowed him to hide evidence -- a point that came up during a Wednesday press conference and that Choi refused to address. But he did not rule out the possibility of obstruction of justice charges.

Choi said the head start did not have a negative impact on St. Paul police investigations, to which Chief Tom Smith added, "Were my investigators happy? No, they weren't."

Only a month ago, Smith chastised the archdiocese for being completely uncooperative with his investigators. A meeting was held the following day, in which Smith later described as "amiable."

"This is the first case presented to our official and there will be more," Choi said. "I suspect this will be an ongoing conversation with our community and I do expect you to hold us accountable and ask questions."

He also encouraged potential victims to come forward no matter how old the allegations.

While I am disappointed with the County AttorneyI realize I don't have access to all the fact that he does. Given that I can't criticize him for his decision.

I am in great need of an attorney in La Crosse, WI.  I feel like my case is time sensitive and I would like to consult someone as soon as possible.  Anyone have someone or a relative they could refer me to?

What a coward.  It's amazing how these asshole lawyers are only tough when they are putting poor people behind bars.   Coward Choi is afraid to do his job so these child molester enablers are going to go free.  Sick.  There sure seemed like there was enough evidence of wrongdoing in the MPR report.   The cops are mad.  Choi needs to do his job.  Not enough evidence?   Then do your fucking job and win a case without much evidence.  These creeps need to be held accountable for what they have done.  Having to sweat out a court trail is a good start for punishment.  Put those criminals in a courtroom.

no offense Jesse Marx, but your writing technique/style is rather aimless. While both of your postings today are very interesting, your approach and content delivery is lack luster

guide the reader more, so the reader doesnt have to read and re-read and read again

@Sally @MicheleBachmann  Sally you are so right. Everybody knows that only MN Regressives are capable of doing things the right. way That is why the MN Regressives control the House, Senate and the Governors Mansion................ Oh wait they don't

@Sally  See I don't care if he is DFL or not.  Whatever he is, he's wrong if he isn't pushing this.  Maybe he will prove me wrong over time but today I am mad.

Unlike you I will not stand up for a bad person because they are from the DFL.   If someone in the DFL makes me mad, i say it.  That's the problem with you Republican stupids.  You never get rid of corrupt or stupid Republicans.   That's why Republicans just constantly say stupid things and nothing ever changes.  That's why people should vote for the DFL.

Since you want to play the game I will point out that the Catholic Church is made up of Republicans.   Nothing but a bunch of Republicans who either molested children or helped other Republicans molest children so you might want to get off your high horse stupid.

@Lenny  Catholics vote for Democrats its true.  Catholic leadership votes for Republicans.  That's why I said it

Seriously fuck off while you are at it.  I only said that to make fun of her stupid ass point.

Maybe your stupid ass should spend less time yelling at me and more time getting mad at your leadership.   It's gross how you Catholic creeps stick together and think its ok to hide pedophiles.

Oh...and I say that as a DFLer and a Catholic, who supported John Choi, an aggressive prosecutor, who simply doesn't have a case that can be made here.  I respect a DA who takes the time to evaluate a case before wasting resources on a case he can't prove.
