"We know that one gentleman appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound," MPD Public Information Officer John Elder told us early this afternoon, adding that police and the medical examiner were still on the scene.

Elder said the suicide happened near the YMCA in a "secluded area" on the second floor of the bustling skyway-connected business and shopping center.

"This wasn't a public display," Elder added.

The man's identity has yet to be released. Elder said police don't know anything at this point about where the man came from or why he decided to take his own life in the plaza.

I just learned that this was Posso. I heard about the incident yesterday but never thought the person involved was a friend of mine. Like @pants_andy said, Posso was an amazing, funny, compassionate , and kind man. Such a bright spirit and loved by many...a terrible loss to us all.

If you're reading this please know Nathan Posso was an incredible person.  he changed the lives of everyone he met. and he did it with out much money at all. he was charismatic, charming, funny, kind, and very free.   even if you've never met him please consider donating to his memorial fund. or if your uncomfortable with that, donate to a suicide prevention charity in his honor or in honor of someone you may have loved and lost.  and Please, Please just be nice to each other.  everyone you meet is facing some kind of struggle inside.

I read this yesterday, and the comments, thinking about the family and friends of this victim of suicide. Today I found out he was my friend.

As has been reported in numerous studies, suicide coverage can increase the likelihood of more suicides in vulnerable individuals. I hope the City Pages would be more careful in this coverage and also responsibly include a list resources for suicide prevention and mental health in an updated version.

There have been sporadic thefts and muggings in that building and the Highland Bank building over the last few months.  Not that the police can stop a suicide, but more police presence in this lightly used corner of the skyway could have prevented such a tragic and scarring event from taking place in a public space.

Wow, I was in my office when this happened. All of a sudden, I was told there was a suicide right below our building. Poor soul. May you rest in peace.

What a shame. Things are difficult these days - too bad people cannot reach out to others for help - rather than dealing with their problems in such a final manner.

it's sad that someone can't find the peace and help they desire and give up

Sad that my first thought was, "Thank God he didn't decide to turn it into a mass shooting and take more people out with him."

Hello, sorry for your loss! Nate was a good friend to many. I am a long time friend of Nate's, I was wondering if you had a way to get a hold of Nate's mom? I haven't seen her or Nate for years!! I would like to reach out to give my respects. Thank you

@washburnposso My deepest condolences over the loss of your nephew.  I work in the building.  We had heard he was a homeless and several of us were concerned he had no family in the area and were contemplaint a memorial service for the man.  Please know that your nephew was in the thoughts and prayers of several people last evening.  thanks

Posso wouldn't hurt a soul, he just was hurting himself apparently.
