Mike Priefer: "I vehemently deny the allegations made by Chris Kluwe"

Vikings special teams coach Mike Priefer has just issued a statement vehemently denying the allegations of homophobia made by Chris Kluwe is his Deadspin post.

"I want to be clear that I do not tolerate discrimination of any type and am respectful of all individuals," Priefer writes."I personally have gay family members who I love and support just as I do any family member."

In one of the most attention-getting passages, Kluwe claims that Priefer suggested that, "We should round up all the gays, send them to an island, and then nuke it until it glows."

Here is Priefer's response:

I vehemently deny today's allegations made by Chris Kluwe.

I want to be clear that I do not tolerate discrimination of any type and am respectful of all individuals. I personally have gay family members who I love and support just as I do any family member.

The primary reason I entered coaching was to affect people in a positive way. As a coach, I have always created an accepting environment for my players, including Chris, and have looked to support them both on and off the field.

The comments today have not only attacked my character and insulted my professionalism, but they have also impacted my family. While my career focus is to be a great professional football coach, my number one priority has always been to be a protective husband and father to my wife and children.

I will continue to work hard for the Minnesota Vikings, the Wilf family and all of our loyal fans.

So sick of all the over-sensitive freaks these days. It's come down to where words you say are more hurtful than actual physical assault. We all might as well where muzzles out in public to avoid offending the feel gooders. Get a life you bunch of sissies!

You do realize 8 years in the NFL at league minimum is a pretty sizable amount of money, right? And he probably made a bit more than the minimum.

Who are these "gay family members"? Not to invade anyone's privacy, but this seems to be the favorite retort of homophobes these days, as if knowing or being related to a gay person somehow makes one incapable of intolerance. I have family members who are homophobic, and having a gay son or brother has not changed their views one bit. Promise anonymity to protect the innocent, but we need to start demanding names and phone numbers whenever someone makes this dubious claim.

Maybe his trust fund money is running out. Not to mention being cut from two football teams. Yeah,...he may be a tad bitter.

I am talking about free speech minus the straw man that has been forced upon us to own since birth. So you are wrong still yet again because if you choose not to contract with the entity of the state they can not do anything to you legally with in their laws. Even Blacks Law and legalese can’t touch it, not even close. And thats because the corporation of the state is founded and bounded by the constitution. The constitution doesn’t apply to the natural citizen making us more free than all written documents could ever say otherwise. Since the state is not a born living thing it has no rights like the living human. Which makes its power weak and only as powerful against the human as so much the human decides to let it. The state with its massive propaganda have indoctrinated people into believing they have no choice but to contract with the state written or verbally. All of the desperation of the corporation of government to keep its power uses more policy an indoctrination and thats what you are seeing now. And why the gay community is wasting their time contracting with the state to gain rights they don’t realize they already have. Go look up straw man an common law free man. Then tell me I am wrong, If you would like to continue this discussion feel free to add me, I always enjoy showing people the truth of their freedom.

Mark Schimke: I was referring to somebody who said Kluwe's speech was protected while working for the Vikings, not the coach. You're right, if the coach said what he supposedly did it very likely could be construed as "hate speech' and would not be protected, regardless of where he said it.

Pd Larson
Pd Larson

Kyle: read the first amendment and MN employment law and get back to me. Abstract concepts of natural rights and political correctness aren't what we're discussing, we're talking about the real world here and the laws therein. "Everyone is free to do whatever they like" is libertarian nonsense and hopelessly naive. You are absolutely not "free" to do whatever you want while you're at work. You have limited rights to privacy, conduct and free speech while employed by someone else. If you work for me, I can fire you if you say something I don't like and there's nothing you can do about it. Show me where in the First Amendment it says that you are protected from retribution for exercising your "right" within the private sector. You also don't have the right to free speech if it involves hate speech, inciting violence, etc. Free speech is not an absolute right; far from it. It's simply stunning how few people in this country understand the concept of "free speech" and how it relates to the first amendment. To repeat: the FA only protects you from the government, not private parties.

Kluwe is an attention seeking, self-profiteering asshole who will say/do what he wants to get his 15 minutes of fame stretched as long as he can. He got released by several teams due to poor performance and his big mouth. Maybe he should stop tweeting and start practicing to try and save his job/livelihood.

Pd you are so wrong and off base about free speech words can not describe. Everyone is free to do whatever they like. They have long before all this politically correct garbage and government poisoning people into believing their only freedom is what their government or laws tell them they have. Which is even more disgusting to me than mere words coming from a person that has fallen more to a world built on complete indoctrination and lies that have all of these people crying about something so obviously irrelevant.

Right, Pd Larson, and Kluwe is not in any type of "protected class" so there is no type of discrimination he could allege. He's not looking for a lawsuit....he knows he has no standing in that regard. He's just plain pissed and disgusted.

Michael Maki is a shining example of what fucked-up Chris Klewe's career. Believe what you want. Promote it if you want to. But don't shove it down other people's throats. And most importantly, don't made an ass of yourself while doing so. Klewe's career in the NFL is over because of his big mouth. And I hope to God that Maki's career is over now that he made a complete ass of himself on social media. He did in fact, delete his FB account. But as we all know, you can't erase stupid. I have a feeling he will be getting a pink slip tomorrow. A WELL deserved one!

"Dillon Derpa Lerpa Bakke is saying you are all talking about gay sex instead of massive government debt, NSA spying, illegal wars, the drug war, our families tearing apart or many bigger issues. Gay sex, always a great diversion." Ah yes. The old "no one can show concern for anything as long as there are other larger issues" canard. Yet you don't mention global warming, which supersedes them all, so this is really just about your identity issues isn't it? Particularly since your response to all your dire, Earth-shattering revelations is to find an Internet thread about an unrelated topic and grouse like an 8th grader that just discovered Ron Paul.

That's not the argument I'm making, all I'm saying is that the argument 'I have gay family members' doesn't mean someone can't be homophobic

Pd Larson
Pd Larson

For the record, I'm a strong Kluwe supporter and think the coach is a sorry excuse for a human if he in fact said what is alleged. But "free speech" doesn't apply in this case - there's nothing "protected" about anything Kluwe has said. The First Amendment only protects citizens from the government impeding your rights, not private parties. Kluwe has no more right to free speech in the Vikings locker room than he does in my living room. In a work environment there is no such thing as "free speech." In states with "at will" employment laws (like Minnesota), you can be fired for simply voicing your opinion or saying something your boss doesn't like. Or you can be fired for any reason at all. Or no reason. Of course, Kluwe had contractual protection but that doesn't guarantee that the team couldn't punitively trade or release him, which appears to be the case here. Whether the coach created a "hostile work environment" with his hate speech is an entirely different situation and may very well bear fruit. But in no way is this a free speech issue.

So how about them Packers? If ARodg comes out of the closet this week, will Chris Klewe take credit for it?
