Ronald Bailey allegedly burned down his own Minnetonka house, blamed Obama

Categories: Crime

Bailey's extensive record includes arrests for domestic assault, DWI, drugs, firearms, and harassment.
Last month, firefighters responding to 49-year-old Ronald Bailey's Minnetonka house expected to deal with a house fire. They got that and a lot more.

According to a Patch report, just after 9 p.m. on December 1, firefighters found Bailey standing at the edge of his driveway at 15101 Victor Lane with his house engulfed in flames behind him. When authorities asked him what happened, he allegedly said, "You should know, you did this, the CIA implanted a computer in my brain and body."

There was plenty more craziness where that came from. According to the criminal complaint, Bailey asked firefighters to let him know when they were done so he could "start the rest of my house on fire." He also asked, "What do I have to do, how big of a bomb do I have to build before the police respect me?"

Bailey then got political. He allegedly told officers he's the first "first half-man/half-robot created by the government," and while he was being hauled to HCMC for treatment for a mental health emergency, Bailey "blamed 'Obama' and the 'CIA' for burning his house down, blamed his father, and threatened to burn down his entire neighborhood after getting released," Patch, citing the criminal complaint, reports.

And oh yeah, even though he's prohibited from possessing a firearm, Bailey allegedly had ammunition in his pocket when authorities arrived. An automatic handgun was found in his charred house (nobody was injured).

The government's "first half-man/half-robot" was charged with first-degree arson and unlawfully possessing a firearm.

I have known Ron for more than 7 years here in Minnesota. The Ron Bailey I know is an intelligent good caring person who would often help people without being asked, he once took in a homeless person because he needed some help and a place to stay. I have no idea what Ron’s political beliefs are nor do I care. I always knew he was different than most people, some days his behaviors and beliefs would rise to the level of what people call Mental Illness. I have read in the news that he had some handgun ammunition in his pocket and that a semi auto pistol was found in the remains of his burnt house. I am sure they also found motor vehicle keys in his pocket and a motor vehicle on the premises’, motor vehicles kill more people in the US then guns. I see a lot of uninformed and cruel comments here; it is certainly your right to make them. I hope your inner demons never rise to the level that would cause you to burn down your own house.

@rickylee65Must be awful for you to live with so much poisonous rage creating your need to use such ugly verbiage. What you say is simply inaccurate - period. Most states do not require background checks for firearms purchased at gun shows from private individuals. Do you want to guess where my sibling acquired his gun ... right, from a private individual at a gun show because he knew a check would not be run to discover that he was also restricted from purchasing a firearm. And now he's dead. Your illogical, vitriolic comments make me wonder how many more people suffering from biological brain diseases will have to follow this same course before laws will properly address this ridiculous loophole that causes so much heartbreak for millions of people across this country! Sure sounds to me as if your motivation to unquestioningly support NRA directives in all manners is more important to you than your "friend's" life. Don't kid yourself -- responding kindly is always within your realm, if you choose it. You're not politicizing this issue?? LOL ...

The man is clearly schizophrenic, anyone who can't see that and is blaming it on his political views is a fool. Everything about this story screams schizophrenia and its very typical for it to peak around his age range. No sane person is going to burn down there own home and blame the president or alien or robot, schizophrenia is to blame for that kind of behavior. It's called being delusional. It's pretty disgusting that people are making fun him. Do you think hes happy about what he is going through? I've had my life terrorized on two seperate occasions by people with schizophrenia who had the same type of delusions and exhibited the same type of behavior. Both of them are now homeless and have nobody to turn to because nobody wants to put up with their crazy bullshit. It's not something to joke about.

I am this man's friend. I have known Ronnie for 35 years and until he was afflicted with severe mental illness he was my best friend. He has many people that love him dearly and he has locked them all out of his life. You cannot imagine watching someone you know and love go off of the deep end. Ronnie is highly intelligent, a genius by some accounts. In the last 10 years his condition has spiraled out of control. He has self medicated in attempts to reach some level of normality and possibly has made matters worse. He has been crying out for help, his family has sought intervention, yet the State refuses to commit him. Ronnie is OBVIOUSLY out of control and not only a danger to himself but also to others. We all wonder why NOBODY acts BEFORE a mentally ill person acts out but here is the perfect example of a ticking bomb and you LAUGH at his condition! Ronnie was in court last month for an attempt to commit him but as I understand it, his case has been closed and he awaits criminal prosecution but it seems he may be released soon. Even with his record he continues to acquire guns but when someone like this does hurt others the liberal idiots use it as a tool to forward their gun control agenda and nothing is done to HELP the mentally ill. The comments here reflect the liberal attitude: Blame republicans, feign concern but do nothing. I live 1000 miles away but Ronnie is in YOUR backyard.

@CJ2day @rickylee65  No rage, just tired of idiots like you that refuse to see the truth. The laws are changing yet do NOTHING to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Do you drive over the speed limit? Ever smoke pot? Drink or smoke under age? These things are ILLEGAL yet you still found a way. How do you not understand this? In every instance of increased gun control violent crime INCREASES!!! HELLO? Just how stupid are you? Are you so stupid that you think a gun killed your brother? Without the gun, you really believe your brother was so stupid he was unable to end his life? This is the delusion ALL liberals suffer from. How many guns were used to kill thousands at the Trade Center, Oklahoma City and the Boston Marathon? "U.S. federal law requires persons engaged in interstate firearm commerce, or those who are "engaged in the business" of dealing firearms, to hold a Federal Firearms License and perform background checks through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System maintained by the FBI prior to transferring a firearm."  Private sales, at gun shows or elsewhere are not always regulated and even if they were that would do NOTHING to stop ILLEGAL sales! GET IT YET?

True Pam. It's likely he will beat the 1st degree arson rap for reasons of mental instability, since theres no other motives apparent. I would venture that a search of his computer would reveal various Conspiracy websites, and deranged comments left on them supporting his mental decline. He doesn't deserve prison...just a nice stay in a ward somewhere until he gets put on some meds that calm him down. the Problem is, if he isn't capable of being rehabilitated (if his psychosis is too deeply rooted to be helped) he will likely pose a threat to himself and Others later on. (considering his behaviors, I would say authority figures and public servants would be way up there on his To-Do List.)

iustitia
iustitia

agreed with you as well Jennifer. The man didn't ask to suffer the psychosis burdening him and hopefully he is able to get some help for it. Charging him to begin with was absurd because any two-bit public defender will knock that charge down to some type of insanity plea. (rightfully so.) If his delusions are too far ingrained however, the man will likely serve as a danger to himself and others later on. The presence of the handgun, with shells in his pocket reveal as much. He would likely target authority figures and representatives of public office. (and perhaps his father.)

@rickylee65 I am extending sympathy for Ronnie & his family -- knowing first-hand the heart-wrenching daily trauma of both being and loving someone whose life is engulfed through the sufferings of mental illness. I am baffled however, by your obvious attempt to politicize the horrendous circumstances of someone you claim is your "friend" ... nothing is to be gained for Ronnie or anyone else by such pointless partisan drivel. WHO is "feigning concern"? From your post on this matter ... not too impressed with your "attitude" either. Your remarks are equally as appalling as any laughter related to Ron's situation. Who is actually the "idiot" here??  If you're concerned about guns being in the hands of your "friend" ... what are YOU actually doing about it?   Do you support the NRA & conservative blockage of logical improvements to background checks geared to stymie people afflicted with mental illnesses from so easily obtaining guns??  I would have loved for someone to check into my sibling's gun purchase from a gun show a little more thoroughly before he bought it and shot himself in the head.

@rickylee65 If you were a true friend, you would have steered him away from the rantings of Rush, Beck and Fox News in general. I'm sure they are complicit in his mental illness to some degree. Irony here is that he can probably get some mental help thanks to certain provisions of ObamaCare. Thanks Obama!

rt.schaffer13

@MNjoe That is what I love so much about this whole story and the comments.  Ron was an Obama voting dem who slipped further into his mental illness the more democratic propaganda he found.  He honestly thought he was working for Obama.

rickylee65

@CJ2day @rickylee65 CJ YOU are the idiot who fails to see that gun control and background checks do NOT keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. Ronnie is banned from owning and/or purchasing firearms. OBVIOUSLY, he acquired said guns ILLEGALLY!!! GET IT YET ?! People doing ILLEGAL activities don't get their weapons legally! There ARE sufficient background checks when purchasing ANY gun legally. I had to have one to buy a 22 rifle for my son's birthday, to purchase a pistol from a pawn shop or gun dealer. America does NOT have a gun problem. We have a CRIME problem. Gun control only keeps the legal gun owner from protecting himself. Only an idiot would refuse to understand this. I didn't politicize this issue. The liberal vermin did, as they do to any tragedy that they can use as a tool to forward their agenda. As for the above comments, how would you feel if I laughed at your tragedy and exclaimed that he probably killed himself to escape his liberal idiot family? Wouldn't make you want to respond kindly, would it?

rt.schaffer13

@MNjoe @rickylee65 I am also a long time friend of Ron's.  I've known him for over 20 years.  What happened to him is horrendous, it tore his family and friends away from him.  What is worse is the politicization of this event.  I've read this and many other articles along with the various comments.  You want to hear irony?  Ron was a loving and caring individual who went out of his way to help his family, friends and neighbors.  He was in turn very loved.  Ron blasted Rush and others, swore them off and began listening to liberal news, talk and reading liberal commentary.  He turned in favor of gun control and lauded the benefits of socialized medicine and other ideas.  The worse his condition got, the more left he became.  You see, liberalism is a mental disorder; case in point.  Oh the irony MNjoe and everyone else who has blamed conservatism and called it a disorder, it must hurt to learn just how wrong you are.  You see, Ron had high hopes that ObamaCare would help him.  Turns out, the state wanted nothing to do with him and ObamaCare could not help.  The ACLU (a liberal organization) came to help and said that Ron's civil rights were more important than getting him help.  Ron asked how big a bomb he had to build.  This was a scream for help.  He asked how far he had to go for someone to help him.  Again, the irony must be getting painful.  I discussed this with state counselors and attorneys, they all told me the same story.  They need someone to commit a crime strong enough to give argument against the ACLU before they can act.  We don't know that Ron started the fire but we are extremely fortunate that Ron did not hurt anyone else while trying to get our attention.  Don't sweat these idiots Rickylee.  Ron's dad gave me your number and I'll be calling soon to give you an update and let you know how you might be able to help.  I'm a conservative and I care very deeply about everyone, including MNjoe (who I think needs some help, he obviously has some issues).  BTW MNjoe, the original nutjob with the kool-aid wasn't a conservative, far from it in fact.  Your trying to hard MNjoe...makes you look desperate...but it also makes me laugh, so thanks.

@CJ2day @rickylee65 You get nothing. Keep the blinders on. Denial is a sad place to live in. Remember, others NEED the government to tell them what to do. Not you. Just those others. You are a fool. We did everything we could to keep Ronnie away from guns. Those who love him asked him to seek help and ultimately sent in the authorities. He was prosecuted, incarcerated and his massive gun collection was taken away and destroyed yet he still manages to get guns ILLEGALLY despite being banned and harsher laws. All that was accomplished was that we did our part, the courts keep on releasing him and he now hates all of us. Your brother died by his own hand and method matters nothing. To believe so is a symptom of your own illness, denial. Those intent on killing themselves will succeed and there is nothing you can do. Laws are designed to generate revenues. Before speed limits people governed themselves and did a good job. Making drinking, smoking, and drugs illegal has done nothing but add to the allure.  Have another drink of Kool Aid!

@rickylee65  No rage? LOL even more!
Again - you're kidding yourself (no matter how many child-like names & tantrum-induced insults you throw in my direction ... LOL). Even your listed examples are so poorly conceived. I have little doubt that there would be much more underage drinking, smoking, speeding, crime, etc., in general IF there were not certain laws in effect addressing each one of these issues. It is total nonsense that we should promote an official pathway with open doors for people who might present a danger to themselves & others to obtain a firearm simply because they MIGHT try to get one illegally anyway??  AND you're so wrong again -- my sibling definitely died by gun shot from a firearm that was sold without a BG check at a gun show. I know that he would NOT have chosen death if this opportunity was not literally placed in his hand. I believe that a REAL "friend" would do whatever might legally eliminate ANY & ALL possibilities of putting this gun in Ronnie's hands. Believe me, I clearly "get it." And again - heartfelt sympathy to Ronnie & his family.

@MicheleBachmann @rickylee65 I haven't blamed anyone for my problems and only said "idiot" once. Anyone that believes what they are told yet refuses to open their eyes to the reality all around them IS an idiot. Ronnie DID read Ayn Rand! I remember him telling me about it. Try to hear me. Try to see through the cloud that covers reality for ALL liberals: Obama has been in office now for a LOOONNNGGG time. Nothing is getting better. Obamacare is an utter failure and people are losing their health coverage and those that are able to get Obamacare are finding it costs MORE than what they lost. This is reality. WAKE UP! Time to stop blaming Republicans for Obama's failures. Trying to reason with a liberal is like trying to have a conservation with a cat: They look like they're paying attention but it's all beyond their grasp and they're really thinking about their next meal. Ronnie has been through therapy, medications, incarcerations, prosecutions, and temporary commitments. What he needs now is long term commitment and supervision and someone to regulate his medication. The liberal system keeps releasing him. Only AFTER a mentally ill person hurts others do the liberals cry out for gun control and ask why didn't someone do something? This is the liberal mindset: "Someone (else) should do something and there should be a law about anything I don't approve of." Oh, and: "This is all Bush's fault!" Now you go on back to your world where Democrats can do no wrong and the media always tells the truth. Nothing to see here. Move along.

@rickylee65 I can see why you are a conservative since all you do is insult liberals and blame liberals for your problems.   Your friends life is ruined because he didn't get proper mental health treatment.   Conservatives like you had 8 years under George W. Bush to fix this very real problem instead they did nothing.   Obama spent all his energy on Obamacare.  He has risked his entire legacy on Obamacare being able to successfully help people like your friend.   You are such a stupid mean bastard of a person you won't even learn a lesson about who is really trying to help you. Obama is trying to make people's lives better.   Obamacare will make it less likely mental illness goes untreated in our society.   Open your eyes.   You have seen what the old system did to your friend.  The Republicans have zero ideas on how to fix things.  The Democrats have an idea and our trying.    Open your eyes stupid.   Your friends life is ruined by his issues.   What will Republicans do to help him?   Tell him to read Ayn Rand?

@MNjoe @rickylee65 Jim Jones was also self assured in his piety, but like you but he cared nothing for those he claimed to so support. Conservatives want to stop the abuse of the system, to help people become self reliant, not to view having children as a career move. If you disagree with the reasons behind war, PLEASE, feel free to go to Afghanistan, Iraq, or any other such country and preach peace. Liberalism is caused by a massive superiority complex and the desire to make others conform to your ideas. "I don't drink large Slurpee's so we should have a law preventing others from drinking them!" Typical of the liberal mindset, you blame conservatives and do nothing to solve the problem. My friend is mentally ill and needs help that he isn't getting but you make this an opportunity for forwarding your political agenda. Par for the course!

@rickylee65 @MNjoe No you have it backwards - conservativism is caused by mental illness. It can be entry level such as a lack of empathy for your fellow man (cutting food stamps, aid to children), sociopathic behaviors like starting needless wars for your own profit, or cases like the guy in the article.  And thanks for the "kool-aid" reference - it's so insightful and original - I'd bet you have no idea where it even comes from. (Q: Who was the original religious nutjob conservative giving out kool-aid to his constituents?)
