St. Paul: Most romantic getaway in North America?

It's so cold all you'll want to do is snuggle!
For some reason, the national media is convinced the Twin Iceboxes Cities is a great romantic destination.

In 2012, Yahoo named Minneapolis one of America's most "unexpectedly romantic" cities. Now St. Paul is a finalist for USA Today's "Best Romantic North American Getaway" award.

St. Paul is one of 20 finalists. In fact, our capital city was listed as first in the rankings yesterday, with Sante Fe close behind.

Here's how USA Today justified including St. Paul as a finalist in the first place:
St. Paul is the smaller, quieter and, many say, the more sophisticated of the Twin Cities. While not an obvious choice as a romantic getaway, couples love it for its diverse romantic offerings, like leisurely paddle-wheeler rides along the Mississippi, beer tastings, or ice skating. St. Paul also has a thriving performing arts scene.
"More sophisticated"? Take that, Minneapolis!

Voting is open until January 27. Click here to cast your ballot, but let's be real -- regardless of which city ends up winning , there's no way St. Paul frickin' Minnesnowta is actually preferable as a romantic getaway to Honolulu or Naples, Florida. (Granted, I typed that while shivering.)

This one sure brought out the haters. If Minneapolis weren't so busy trying to imitate New York it might have made the cut too.

St. Paul more sophisticated.... That's some bull. Full of a bunch of drunk Irish people that got beat with an ugly stick. Minneapolis is where the sophistication of the twin cities live.

If I lived somewhere decent and my fiancée took me to St Paul for a "romantic getaway" I would be confused and pissed off. Really?

As a St. Paulite all I can say is that St. Paul is beautiful at anytime of the year. It's grand architecture and cobbled streets... So befitting of Fitzgerald's grandeur. I recommend walking the streets to appreciate the beautiful architecture that one misses when just driving by.

Saint Paul romantic? Absolutely! Rice Park powered by Xcel Energy, Wells Fargo WinterSkate, WA Frost & Company, St. Paul Grill, Meritage - St. Paul Restaurant, The Covington Inn Bed and Breakfast, a walk along the river, sunset from Mounds Park, Como Park Zoo & Conservatory...the list goes on! Need other ideas? Just ask!

@atrupar haha! Mickey's is where I go when I have a gig in St Paul, and find myself downtown drunk at 4am looking for cheap breakfast

Yeah...but Mpls doesn't have nearly the charm that St. Paul does.
