Chris Steller's spoof of Strib's "bang for the butt" headline goes national
|Not the Onion.|
But there were different interpretations. For one local journalist, the formulation conjured up memories of one of his childhood's innocent pleasures.
"I've had a thing for the little messages on candy hearts for a long time," Chris Steller told us. "I mean, like any kid."
Steller was recognized as an honorable mention in our top 20 tweeters list, but that didn't render him invincible to the chopping block. He was recently laid off by Patch and has been using his time to come up with amusing social media offerings of this sort:featured yesterday in Jim Romenesko's nationally recognized journalism blog. Not bad for a day's worth of funemployment.
"It wasn't till I saw the #rejectedcandyhearts hashtag game that I thought of making the headline into a heart," Steller said. "So I found the most sophisticated candy-heart image generator out there, or at least in the first page of Google results."
"I'm looking for a job, have time on my hands, love headlines, and love candy hearts," he continued. "The rest is history."
