The as-of-yet unidentified victim was found inside a vehicle. (Minneapolis Police Department spokesman John Elder told us he was in his mid-30s.) The suspect drove away from the scene in a dark-colored SUV and remains on the loose.
Asked this morning about where the MPD's investigation is at, Elder told us, "Until we're able to formally identify the victim, it's tough for us to be able to ascertain the scenario behind this."
"Officers canvassed the area and interviewed several persons," a statement from the MPD says. "They are following up on available leads."
An official at the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office told us they're not sure when the identity of the victim will be released.
Elder added that it's unusual for an incident of this sort to happen in this particular part of south Minneapolis, which is just east of the Hiawatha LRT line.
"We don't get a lot of calls over there," he said.
