Michele Bachmann stirs both racial and gender controversy... in one quote

bachmann women rect 2.jpg
Lame duck 6th District Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has been laying relatively low of late, but a new interview with conservative columnist Cal Thomas illustrates she can still go on the record and drop some verbal bombs.

SEE ALSO: Bachmann looks extra creepy while attributing Benghazi, 9/11 to God's "hand of judgment"

In one quote alone, Bachmann managed to stoke both racial and gender controversy by saying that on one hand, Barack Obama was elected president because he's black, but on the other, Hillary Clinton, as a woman, won't benefit from the same "guilt."

Here's the relevant excerpt from Thomas's column:
Bachmann says a lot of people "aren't ready" for a female president. "I think there was a cachet about having an African-American president because of guilt." (Presumably she means because of slavery and the lengthy denial of civil rights to blacks.) "People don't hold guilt for a woman," she says, adding that while people vote for women for virtually every other office "I don't think there is a pent-up desire" for a woman president.
Race and gender aside, Bachmann does think there's a good political reason Hillary will have trouble in 2016. Bachmann historians will probably be able to guess what it is, but if you need a couple hints, consider that it's one of Michele's favorite words and it kinda sorta rhymes with kamikaze.

Still stumped?

"She has a real problem when it comes to Benghazi," Bachmann told Thomas. "She was in charge during the Benghazi debacle. If a person reads the Senate Intelligence report and the House Foreign Affairs report released [last] week, it is damning for Hillary Clinton."

And oh yeah, Bachmann also called Hillary "the godmother of Obamacare" and said her presidency would amount to "Obama's third and fourth term in office."

Hillary may be the godmother of Obamacare, but Michele is certainly the godmother of the blogable quote. Not having a Bachmann campaign to write about this year will leave a void, but whether she's running for office or not, we get the sense Michele won't be shy about sharing her always colorful opinions about American politics, Miley Cyrus, fast food, or anything else.

Bachmann says a lot of people "aren't ready" for a female president. People are not ready for a brain dead grifting female President like her.

I'd like to see America mature politically past Identity Politics. But we have to go through it to get through it.  And I'd suggest that anybody who thought President Obama would prioritize the interests of African-Americans wasn't only wrong but wasn't every paying attention to the cautious center-right, status-quo preserving politician Obama has always been.

But, knowing Rep. Bachmann, I'm sure she was playing some sort of dog-whistle self-pity victim trip like usual.  If I cared in the least I could read the transcript of her on the show and figure out what the gag was.  But I haven't cared about anything Rep. Bachmann has said or done since she got caught on TV hiding in the bushes at the State Capitol, spying on the GLAAD rally, and the time she lied to the police in the infamous (and completely made-up) Skandia Bathroom Lesbian Encounter.

So , those of you who didn't have "white guilt" and voted for his policies anyway , are more stupid than I thought.

I don't think either of those statements were really that controversial. During Obama's first election I heard many of friends say "I don't care who wins, but I think it'd be cool to have a first black president, so I'm voting for Obama" I think mostly why Obama won is because George W Bush left the republican party in an unwinnable position after Iraq and Mccain didn't help the republicans at all.

We need to stop talking about her...then she goes away. Nothing she says could possibly shock at this point. She's fucking retarded, so she will say retarded things. I am not surprised to find mold on expired food...it's a given.

If you think Obama's race had nothing to do with him getting elected, you are a damn fool. City pages is becoming more and more like TMZ every day. Most of the posts are "he said, she said" articles. Why don't you guys post about stuff that is actually going on, like music shows, events, ANYTHING that is actually worth the read, not garbage like this.

She might be wrong on a lot of issues, but she might have a point about people not having "guilt" towards the way women were/are treated. Take that how you will, but the comments here don't exactly spark of egalitarian or thoughtful discourse.

Left, right, red, blue, team colors for people who don't want to think for themselves. I guess you can say whatever you want and be morally righteous, so long as you're deriding the other team.

If people did not "vote" for obama because he is half black , why are those who disagree with his policies called racist ? He is the most divisive racialist president in history.

WOW! Such an ignorant smart woman. She needs to be ashamed of herself, hinting that the President was elected into office out of "guilt" as if she speaks for the entire population of whites?! She needs to go back under the rock that she came from and stop showing her face in public if this is the ignorance that comes out of her mouth.

Stop giving this woman publicity. I don't go and write down shit schizophrenics at mental hospitals say and call it news. I think it's pretty fucked up to quote this woman when she has an obvious mental disability. Stop taking advantage of the disabled to pad a news article.

The fact is NO ONE is fit to run this country, as soon as they are elected into office they become a puppet.....if they weren't already......then every one likes to play Captan Hindsight and say " if so and so was in office this would never happen" bullshit the United States government is a complete facade, it's the face of the multi-billionaires that control this world and it's resources in order to implement their "New World Order". Chemtrails, fluoridated water, GMO's in our food, the NSA, IRS, The FED, WAKE UP. At every turn they either try to control your opinion or make sure you don't have one. Heed this advice or don't either way I'm worried about my health and safety and that of friends and family and expanding my own consciousness...... These earthly trappings are but one facet of existence, unfortunately this is not the mainstay of society and if it doesn't become that soon, there WILL be no hope. Namaste.

Barack Hussein Obama II is the 44th and current President of the United States, and the first African American to hold the office. You are saying the POTUS was elected and REELECTED because he is back. YOU ARE AS SMART AS Michelle Bachman.

alsdkfj
alsdkfj

Why? It's a low view of humanity, but it's also a viewpoint that may hold true for a few people. In the same way a lot of people probably voted against him because he is not white, many voters may have focused too much on race rather than substance. That doesn't mean it's a totally outrageous statement. She isn't a dolt 100 percent of the time you know.

You don't have an ACTUAL opinion on anything, you're all status quo. You're an oldish guy that has accumulated a fair amount of info but has never learned how to properly analyze that data. Because of this learning has ceased, you are not willing to be open to new ideas and are real predictable.

I don't necessarily think you're wrong on this particular post, it's just funny that you mentioned you aren't about "identity politics", especially as you seem to be fascinated with identity. Remember that one time when you were speaking out about racism (supposedly on the side of ant-racism) by making a comparison between "whites" and "African Americans"? I do.
