Good Samaritan whose kick to St. Paul robber's face was caught on camera comes forward

The epic image at the top of this post was captured by security cameras at the CVS near Arcade Street and Maryland Avenue in St. Paul just before midnight on the night of February 24. It shows a knife-wielding, would-be (alleged) robber, 28-year-old Forest Lake resident Simon Hanson, getting kicked square in the kisser by a Good Samaritan.

Hanson ended up losing his phone during the melee, and when he called it in hopes of getting it back later, police were able to set up a meeting and arrest him. Under questioning, Hanson said he chipped his tooth when he "got [his] head bashed in earlier."

In the criminal complaint, the hero goes unidentified. Here's what it says:
CVShero.jpg
Moore's swift kick may have prevented a robbery.
Officer Johnson located and interviewed the customer who intervened in the robbery at the CVS. He reported that he was there with his girlfriend to pick up a prescription for his son. He saw the suspect waiting in line and told his girlfriend that he had a feeling that the man was going to rob the store. He was concerned because the man was wearing some kind of a blue mask over his face. He then saw the man go behind the counter. He saw the man saying, "Where the money at, where the money at?" He decided to intervene. He jumped on the counter and kicked the suspect in the face. He was pretty sure that he had injured the suspect during the altercation.
But in an interview published earlier this week, the "customer" comes forward. His name is Jesse Moore, and the 21-year-old told WCCO even though police advise against doing what he did, he'd do the same thing all over again.

Hanson, meanwhile, has been charged with attempted aggravated robbery in the first degree. In addition to the CVS incident, he allegedly tried to rob a St. Paul Corner Gas station with his knife earlier that same evening. (That effort also failed after the clerk told Hanson he pushed the silent alarm button.)

Here's Hanson's mugshot:

This dude has got them hanging.  For comedy's sake I hope he is a Monty Python fan.

Why would anyone be so stupid as to stand in line with a mask over his face to begin with Total amateur. He deserved that kick in the face.

Jessie Moore's action alone was heroic, but also consider this: Many folks raised in gang areas learn to not interfere with criminals or aid cops/the law by seeing the retribution against those who do. And given his previous police record, Jessie has almost certainly undergone a transformation, at a young age and against all odds. Those with a criminal mindset or resentment of cops/the legal system/The System would not have intervened. Jessie's action was profoundly pro-social, and in the broader context of his background, all the more deserving of accolades and respect.

Ryan, pretty sure the robbers can't do basic math and have no interest in learning.

I used to work the overnight shift there. Not the first time the store has been held up. Clerk got her face smashed on the counter during one robbery. FYI to anyone wanting to rob CVS. There is less than 100 dollars in the registers. Do the math on the number of years in prison vs getting a job!

GOT CHUCK NORRIS ON THAT ASS. I don't care who he is, this man did the right thing. You all may judge him, but I bet those of you talking trash would be the first to shit your pants in this situation.

I'm sure that's just a taste of what is to come for him if he gets stuck in the Ramsey County lock up for more than a few days.

So he, like all of us, is not perfect. However, he unlike a lot of us, stepped in when he could have been injured or killed. Some people learn from their mistakes. Some people, like you, want to shame others about their mistakes. Kudos to Jesse Moore who, on 03/2014 aided in the arrest of someone breaking the law!

And why does it suck that the hero is black? That is the dumbest thing i have heard in a long time. The key is here that a HUMAN helped another HUMAN in trouble regardless of race. Oh wait you said NRA and Tea Party...now I see where the racist part fits your in your post

Why would it be better if the robber was shot?

Two years is long enough. And what happens in his future doesn't change the recent past when he, you know, stopped a robbery.

Jackson, Jessie's last crime was 2 years ago. Maybe he has changed. His prior record doesn't change the fact that he did the right thing here.

I don't understand how the punter hopped up on the table, stood up and kicked without the robber noticing anything. Well placed though, well placed.

Good point Shylina. He has a family and it sounds as though he took the step in the right direction maybe because of this. This is very apparent in his actions here.

Hey Jackson it sounds like you are a stalker! Are you a greazy cop like digitalprotocol says? I have worked with many people that were in trouble with the law with records as long as my arm, and befriended them. Most work hard at trying to get back on track. The past is the past and the present is the present. Let it go.

I see your point Jackson King, he did screw up. But, he had done a heroic thing here. Maybe he is sick and tired of his previous self. Maybe his has finally grown up. Maybe he should be forgiven. Once a person with the credentials like Mr, Moore  dies then it is too late to refurbish himself. He is not dead he is alive which means he can change and it seems like he has. Give him a break.

Looks like between the ages of 18 and 20, young Mr. Moore got into a couple of minor altercations and was, as usual, ridiculously overcharged.  Dispute with a shopkeeper, small amount of weed, a domestic complaint that looks like it was dropped, and the kind of charges that result from mouthing off to a cop while being arrested, or getting back together with the girlfriend whose neighbor called the cops during an argument.

What this arrest record really shows is how badly screwed a young man gets in the system when he doesn't get good legal advice after the very first incident, and how once you're in the system, the system works to get you put in a cage for a very long time.  A kid whose parents have the money to get him a good lawyer on the very first charge never sees any of the rest of these charges later down the line.
