Kurt Zellers blasts Dayton for suggesting people should just buy pot on street

daytonzellers.jpg
Asked last summer if he supports medical marijuana, Zellers said he doesn't: "Other states that have tried it are seeing spikes in crime."
During a private chat at the Governor's Residence with medical marijuana supporters earlier this month where the governor sounded a pessimistic note about medical marijuana's prospects this session, Mark Dayton did indicate there's still a way those who want it can get it.

Why, just buy it on the street! It's not like pot is super hard to find on the black market these days anyway, right? And even if you're arrested with some, the punishment is only a petty misdemeanor.

But after medical marijuana supporters took umbrage with that suggestion, Dayton backtracked, saying in a statement: "I cannot, and I do not, advocate breaking the law. But as a father, I understand parents who would do anything possible to help their children."

Nonetheless, Rep. Kurt Zellers, R-Maple Grove -- one of the Republicans running to take Dayton's job this year -- took to Twitter today to blast Dayton for his conference call comments: Yesterday, Dayton breathed a little bit of new life into the medical marijuana issue, so perhaps those who want it to treat various afflictions will soon have a more reputable place to go than WeBeHigh.org or their nearest seedy street corner after all.

:::: UPDATE ::::

Here's video from a news conference yesterday where a mother who believes her child could benefit from medical marijuana details what the governor allegedly said during the aforementioned Governor's Residence meeting:

Kurt - What would you do differently? Surely the market has spoken...

As I tell children: Identifying what is wrong is easy, bring me your solution.

Admittedly: Lofty to expect as much from this group as I do from a four year old.

Why didn't Zellers state how he feels about government deciding what adults can and can't do in the privacy of their own homes?

I thought the Republicans were all about personal responsibility.

@ron.fresquez  Ron. It is called a "charade". One Professional Politician for Pot, One Professional Politician against Pot. So you'll be choosing from Two Professional Politicians ONCE AGAIN. It is a dog n' pony show for the voters. They will go duck hunting again in 2014. When the "smoke settles" big business will own the thc oil market just like they want, and Hemp food will be controlled so no one can afford to eat it in the quantities where miracles happen. This is what we get when a "Lot" of people accept so little for their self.

@DavidFoureyes  David: The solution is quite simple. Since the Cannabis Genome is mapped 3 years ago we can be assured by the most advanced Science that THC - DOES NOT EXIST in the bio-synthetic pathway of Cannabis. Further, THCA, the precursor to THC - DOES NOT EXIST in the bio-synthetic pathway of Hemp.  So, Hemp CANNOT produce THC - meanwhile our legislatures our having 100 year old context debates about THC in Hemp. This is a smokescreen so no one realizes there is NO THC in Cannabis - because that surely would expose - the Emperor Has No Clothes... Do the research. Cannabis ends in THCA or CBDA or both. Hemp ends in CBDA. NO THC PRESENT, NOR ACCOUNTED FOR OFFICER. Biggest Science Lie & Charade On Earth. SOLUTION: Remove Adult Prohibition - Require a Prescription for Parents to DECARBOXYLATE - THCA into THC for their Minor Children. Everything else is moot, and a big science lie.

@sosmpls

As it turns out, 4 of the 5 Repubs running for Gov. are against legal pot. Looks like there is no one worth voting for again.

@GretavonOtto @sosmpls  Vote for a Libertarian or Green Party then. Oh no. Lions, tigers & bears oh, my. These folks might change the status quo RACISM & CLASSISM that is alive & well in America. As long as Americans are addicted to Greed and Hemp is controlled by the Government - the Republican & Democrat charade will continue, but there isn't much left before this austerity kicks in full-stride.
