MPD spokesman John Elder isn't sure why three armed robbers keep going after Minneapolis sandwich shops, but he'd "love to ask them when we get them," he told us this morning.

Toward that end, the MPD released two security stills showing the robbers in action yesterday morning at the Subway at 2400 E. Hennepin Ave.

One is at the top of this post. Here's the second:

The MPD says the men, wearing masks, forced an employee into a cooler before making off with a backpack, cell phone, and undisclosed amount of cash.

Police believe the same three suspects are connected with recent robberies at the Subways at 3541 Cedar Ave. S. and 3621 W. 50th St., and the Quiznos at 1851 Washington Ave. S. They may also have been involved in recent robberies in Minnetonka and St. Anthony.

The suspects are believed to be between 20 and 25. Two of them are black, while the third's race is unknown. They seem to always work in a group and brandish guns.

Elder acknowledges "you can't tell a lot" from the security stills, but says the hope is that "maybe someone will recognize something from them, like the clothing they're wearing."

Nobody has been physically harmed during the course of any of the aforementioned robberies, but Elder says the suspects have had "physical contact" with employees.

If you have any information, the MPD asks you to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. A $1,000 reward is available.

This makes me want a BBQ beef sammich from Caffrey's for some reason. I live in Duluth so I don't get them too often.

I'm guessing one works or has worked in a sandwich shop. ...and they are all very dumb.

I suppose robbers and thieves should have a niche, too....

Seriously hungry bandits! Should also be on a dumbest criminals show!

They are hungry and don't want to spend the stolen money on food. Thinking efficiently and economically.

It makes them an easy target. If your employer is robbing you of your tips are you going to stop some one from robbing your employer? The robbers are former employees of sandwich shops that know how mad the employees are. If the Robbers were employed there they are not robbing they are taking their money back.

Im guessing cause there's always high school kids working there....easy target and there always busy...there for money!

Remember a few years back when the LynLake Subway was robbed and one of the suspects got stuck between the buildings? That was Lake Oswego Police Blotter quality.

Surprised they're not KFCs.

Maybe they should focus on getting them and NOT why they're robbing restaurants?

Sandwich shops that I have worked at such as Jimmy John, Subways, violate labor laws and the employees hate the bosses and are happy to see the place get robbed. The employees wont try to be a hero and will secretly cheer on the robber.

Or for the simple fact it's easy Pickens lol, hint hint they keep doing the same job

Because they're easy targets and none/little have alert system or cameras, with kids behind the desk that won't think twice about giving up the goods. I use to work at one back in my college days. It would be soooo easy to rob one of these and get away with it. // And I agree with the last comment, probably most likely former employees.

Maybe they watched the first scene of Pulp Fiction.

Dude you're a moron. You wouldn't secretly cheer when somebody points a gun at you at work I guarantee you that. You've obviously never been on the short end of a robbery.
