Just before 6 p.m. Saturday, Roberto Ortiz, a 22-year-old Minneapolis resident, was pulled over in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights after an officer observed him commit unspecified traffic violations.

Ortiz consented to let an officer search his 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. Inside, allegedly, was 25 pounds of crystal meth, with a street value of a whopping $1.75 million.

The crystal was found under the front driver seat and in a box located in the back of the vehicle. Here, via a Cook County Sheriff's Office press release, is what it amounted to:

Ortiz has been charged with felony narcotics possession with intent to deliver. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison with no possibility of probation.

I don't think you could get 70,000 a pound for that shit. I always love the fake police totals. Now Ortiz's family will have to work off the lost load or be killed. They should decriminalize all drugs and distribute things like meth and heroin in controlled sterile environments in clinics until the patients either die or seek help quitting. Doing that would ruin the cartel business and end the cycle of addicts getting others hooked in order to sell enough to support their own habits. The war on drugs is not winnable by jailing people.

Eva, if you get caught with 25 pounds of meth you deserve a long period of incarceration!

"Here’s a distinction we shouldn’t be proud of: More people are incarcerated in the United States than any other nation in the world. The number of federal inmates has doubled over the past decade, costing taxpayers around $80 billion a year. One reason: Mandatory minimum sentences for drug crimes, immigration violations, and other non-violent offenses." Robert Reich ~Sixty years is an excess and a waste for everyone!!!!!!!

Up to 60 years for some pumped up adderall that jackasses willingly buy? Rapists and murderers get lighter sentences.

Well, he will be sent here to Elk River and await trial and INS! And he's probably the low man on the totem poll! He will turn state witness, get the higher up, be deported, and get killed as soon as he's dropped off. Then they will just get another kid to do their dirty work that needs food for their family

Why would anyone consent to a search, much less if you had millions of dollars in drugs?

I like that the traffic violations are "unspecified"...

So, no drug dealer should ever serve jail time?

Taylor, if I search your sock drawer at home, am I going to find something?

So, you're assuming he's a "Border hopper" based on his name alone? You DO realize that someone named "Sebastian Martinez" could be considered a "Border hopper" like racist twits like yourself...right? Or is that irony completely lost on you?

@chh55  Because he is the low man on the totem and a complete idiot.  This bust does nothing but ruin one person's life.  They had a new Roberto Ortiz making the drive this morning as the cops sat around patting themselves on the back.  The War on Drugs is a pointless evil endeavor.
