Sign the petition to ban Mike Vick from the Vikings

Yesterday we told you that Adrian Peterson tweeted his support for the Vikings to hire Mike Vick as quarterback. We also provided five horrific examples of Vick's dog abuse that suggest he may not be a good character fit for Minnesota.

The post inspired a reader to create a petition asking the Vikings to "say no to Michael Vick." Colleen Ferguson just launched the action on GoPetition.com this morning.

"We, the fans of Minnesota Vikings, as well as others who are fans of dogs, request that Ziggy Wilf and the Minnesota Vikings do not hire Michael Vick as Quarterback or in any position associated with the Vikings or NFL," the petition reads.

If you feel strongly about the issue and want your voice to be heard, you can sign the petition here.

Seriously? When it comes to sports, does character, matter? After reading these posts, it doesn't seem like people care if the sports stars that children idolize have violent rap sheets. Let the rapists, animal abusers and anybody else, reign! Sorry, I don't support glorifying criminals. There's enough talented Americans out there, that these sports teams shouldn't have to reach for the bottom of the barrel.

Michael Vick is welcomed to Minnesota Twice!!!

Petitions are funny. Nobody is listening to you. If he wins games, MN will line up.

He "spoke out against animal abuse" because a judge said he had to..

I would rather sign a petition banning the Vikings from Minnesota. For a team with a master-criminal as an owner and who's players typically lead the league in criminal arrests to consider Michael Vick "inappropriate" to play is a joke.

It's now a moot point. Cassel re-signed with the Vikings.

I bet you idiots would welcome a murderer before Vick. Grow up. He did his time. Here's an idea dummies if you don't like him don't watch him.

City Pages. Why don't you do a positive piece on how he turned his situation around and spoke out against animal cruelty after learning his lesson. That was how many years ago now? Yet a guy can't get a second chance.

Another old and washed up QB for MN PLUS an extreme POS? No gracias...

Petition huh? We do this for dogs but not humans, oh the seriousness of dog lovers needs to be documented. Might as well stop eating meat if you're against animal cruelty.

Most of you people posting here eat animals daily. They most likely live a life of torture before being killed in a less than humane way before making it to your plate. You were raised in a culture that says that's ok, just like fighting dogs was for him.

You people are dumb. He's payed for his crimes and quit doing it so get off your high horse and accept a decent QB to the roster. He's got a year or two left sign him and draft one of the many quality qbs in 2014 draft to back up and learn.

Pro athletes are suppose to be role models for kids, and spokes people for the team.

I support this petition. Keep him out of Minnesota. He is a horrible human being...my opinion. I will not change this opinion so please don't try. I hope enough pressure from fans will keep him out of Minnesota.

Why would we do that? The dude paid his debt to society by spending time in prison and still donates a chunk of his salary to puppy shelters. Also, Christian Ponder is a joke. If we have to foot the bill for the new stadium we may as well have a halfway decent QB.

I don't agree with this. But I think we should get him. This is football. Not a character contest. Might as well petition against hunters. Meat eaters and others sinners too. Skol viks

Shawn Taylor, what is your point about the dogs that were saved? Because just so you know, they were saved by the extremely dedicated and hard-working volunteers at Best Friends. Their survival sure as hell had absolutely nothing to do with Vick.

Colleen Ferguson

All you who are talking about domestic violence, i agree that is terrible too, but you forget one thing - the partner went into the relationship, is capable of independent thought, and can leave. The dogs didn't get that choice. As far as anyone abusing children well as far as I am concerned they should be locked up forever immediately

Colleen Ferguson

Really? and where did you get that "fact"? Are you referring to the dogs who survived of all the dogs including the ones he killed?

Get real, who are you petitioning, nobody will listen to this crap. I agree, He's scum, but the petitiion is a joke.

I don't care if he's paid his societal dues... those dogs have to live with what he put them through....those that survived that is.

Vick has paid his debt to society let him get on with his life....

If money, fame and sport weren't factors here, I guarantee people wouldn't be so quick to overlook the horror of what he did (over and over and over again). They'd be seeing him as the p.o.s. he really is. But he's famous and can play the football, so...

Some of his "dogs were adoptable" after years of medical care and behavioral rehabilitation ONLY thanks to the awesome people at Best Friends Animal Society. Just wanted to make sure that's clear.

Rob Peterson

So some vikings fans are willing to overlook what this asshat did, just so he can come to MN let them all down?

Rob Peterson

Hah! Maybe its supposed to be part of his punishment. Come play for the team that had all the has-been qb's.

Btw, the majority of his dogs were adoptable. Not something that unusually the case in dog fight training cases.

The Wilf family already sucks whether they sign Vick or not. Signing Vick would just be icing on the sucking cake.

Mike Dougherty

My analogy was not a comparison between dogs and people, but rather a response to the logic that "he did his time" holds no merit towards retribution or improvement of moral character, which is the foundation of this debate. I guess I'm not surprised that I have to explain this to "School of hard knocks" and "too smart for college".

Tom McCrary

They're not considering letting him watch the team dogs over the weekend. They're considering hiring him to be the quarterback of their NFL team. But, great analogy.

@jason.dorweiler I vow to only hunt my meat soon so it's a quick clean kill, no torture. There is a difference between eating meat for food and torturing an animal for sport. Most of us would almost vomit at the site of an animal processing plant while Vick readily reveled in the torture of animals judging by the evidence against him. It takes a special breed of human to get off on animal torture and we don't want those kinds around here.
