Makes you wonder what would've happened had the Gophers won...
Though the Gophers men's hockey team gave up a touchdown and extra point worth of goals during a 7-4 loss to Union College in the national championship game last night, Dinkytown revelers weren't dispirited.

A heavy police presence and disappointing defeat didn't stop the streets from being overrun in the second University of Minnesota hockey riot in three nights. In fact, there were nearly twice as many arrests in and around Dinkytown last night as there were Thursday -- 19 compared to 10.

Below the jump we share the best social media photos we've seen of last night's festivities.

Minnesota.. Where casserole is called hotdish.. And a gathering of people is deemed a riot.

What is their message? Is it simply herd behavior? Are there any post game events to attend perhaps sponsored by the U of M?

Serious lack of respect. They should all be tarred and feathered.

Rioting in your own community illustrates a level of political and economic ignorance out of this world. What a bunch of worthless scumbags.

I think it's safe to say 30% of adults 18-22 are fucking morons!

I was watching the news last night with my husband and we both had the same reaction, "What in the hell?" This was so stupid. People laying in the streets? Why? Were they protesting? Rioting? So alarmingly stupid. Wow.

If she should ever need a cop. I wonder if she'll call the person taking this picture instead.

Sad that they keep saying "students" when I am betting the real trouble makers were not students but likely those who consider themselves Anarchists just looking to create chaos.

I'm disappointed that so few people were arrested or otherwise encouraged to disperse more aggressively.

As an alumnus, I have to point out that the kids vandalizing and being arrested in these photos aren't even wearing MN colors. I remember the Spring Jam "riots" in 2009, I'd estimate maybe 30% of that crowd were actual students. Here in Breckenridge, it's generally the out-of-towners or "Gapers" that litter their trash and cause unnecessary accidents on the mountain every day. All I'm saying is remember the suburban d-bags before pointing all the blame to U of M students for this BS.

Stop sensationalizing the stupidity of these kids. You are giving them exactly what they want.

Sports: It's highly appealing to the lowest mentality. Yeah we won, let's riot! Boo we lost, let's riot!

Glad that they lost and acted like idiots.

You think this was a riot? LOL

Wait until 30 years from now when minorities become the majority and this country turns into a third-world fuck hole (Detroit is just a preview, people). When all the republicans (and their money) flee to Europe or elsewhere, and Welfare runs out, you'll see REAL riots. All the stupid white liberals will be left behind and become crime victims from the monster that they created. You'll see how quickly liberals turn conservative. LOL!~

That's how liberals fuck the cooch.

Smh. Kids these days have no idea what a riot is or what social injustice really means. Perhaps they can get their money back from the U of M beachside they are not getting an education that is for certain.

Let's stop covering unnecessary stories please. All they wanted was attention , and they got it!

So these "kids" (18-22 year olds) will get their degree and then go into things like public administration (typically, as the US is becoming an administrator-driven society). So glad that they will be in charge some day...Maybe they can then use their real-life criminal backgrounds in rioting and mayhem to then fight violence and mayhem. Um...

300 officers x 6 hours x $30/hr = $54000. That is a rough estimate of the cost of this stupidity. It does not account for overtime, supervisor pay, or planning. There is plenty of footage from the news stations to determine who was there. Deduct this unnecessary taxpayer expense from the culprits student aid.

you seam to be forgetting the fact that a lot of the U of MN students actually are suburban d-bags that are just currently living in the city for school. (ps i am a current student.)

MikeyJ
MikeyJ

Yeah, and I am sure this "riot" would have been more peaceful if the suburban d-bags were replaced with the respectful "youths" of Norf Minneapolis.

portoqwerty2

I think the publicity encouraged it by saying "we are expecting you to riot" so they were like "well lets go riot" but they aren't doing it for air time they are just drunk kids getting caught up in the euphoria of mob mentality.

kjcoreo
kjcoreo

Where did you hear 300 officers for the riot?  There are only 900 employed on the dept.. Just wondering.

I agree take it out of financial aid. But them mommmy and daddy won't be happy and pleage money to the U .. sadly

And if that was my car or business that was ruined well you can about guess ....

davesalmonson
davesalmonson

Now if you could only figure in the cost of letting dinkytown burn to the ground. Don't forget the cost of the dumpsters. You know, the dumpsters that were lit on fire and then push through the windows of shops.
