MNGOP senators pen fear-mongering anti-pot letter, write that ganja "rips families apart"

IngebrigtsenRosen.jpg
Ingebrigtsen (left) and Rosen regard efforts to legalize weed as "a direct attack at our way of life in Minnesota."
An anti-medical marijuana letter co-written by MNGOP Sens. Julie Rosen and Bill Ingebrigtsen reminds us of some of the crazy stuff you would've read about pot nearly a century ago.

The letter, which is addressed to Rosen and Ingebrigtsen's Senate colleagues, describes marijuana as a "devastatingly addictive drug" that "rips families apart, devastates relationships and destroys communities."

The senators add that they "both have seen" marijuana "firsthand." Therefore, they're experts, or something?

Here's the entire letter, which was first published on Sally Jo Sorensen's Bluestem Prairie blog:

Ingebrigtsen Rosen Dangerously Addictive Letter by Sally Jo Sorensen

It reminds us of this... .... the only difference being Ingebrigtsen and Rosen aren't joking.

John Trombley, the assistant director of the Senate Information Office, tells us formal letters like the one written by Rosen and Ingebrigtsen are distributed to senators in a variety of ways. They might be handed out on the Senate floor, put in senators' Capitol mailboxes, or delivered to their offices, depending on what the letter writer prefers and whether the legislature is in session.

Asked how often senators receive letters from their colleagues like the one written by Rosen and Ingebrigtsen, Trombley says, "It's not a daily occurrence but they do happen... it's not unusual."

You know what is unusual? A community being destroyed by "the dangerous recreational Marijuana." In fact, a recent study suggests medical marijuana correlates with a reduction in violent crime.

But then again, Rosen and Ingebrigtsen have actually seen marijuana with their own eyes, so who needs academic studies?

Another demo from the party of NO (ideas). As soon as big pharma begins to sell weed these two will jump on the band wagon. Greed will win the day. Again.

Come on!  They call it "the marijuana" and mix capitalization throughout their letter.

They clearly do not have any clue what they're talking about!

That's right - can't have people using a naturally occuring drug that helps them... We've got to give it to the pharmaceutical companies so they can "extract" the "active ingredient" and then charge us $50 a pill for something we could grow for free in our backyard.

MEDICAL.... what part of MEDICAL do they not understand? The "get high" part is taken out, and the "get better" part is used for MEDICAL NEEDS.

i'd like them to name one family that has been "ripped apart" by pot use. Can't? Ok here are thousands that have been ruined by alcoholism. Oh and here are some deaths caused by drunk driving. Sorry i don't have any deaths caused by pot use.

Alcohol and Tobacco Kill more american's every day and will never help anyone, unlike marijuana, a plant that can help. Get your facts straight

so does ALCOHOL products - remember the Phillips Distributing Company in Minneapolis, they - that family - made their millions in money distributing alcohol / booze labelled under their name - and they have a hospital center named after themselves - in memoriam of some person (in their family that donated millions to health research) for something a family member died from ... :O They do a wonderful thing on the one hand as to the health center - but deal death on the other hand. Go figure that one out ... :p

What do they do after work: Go to a bar or fancy restaurant and have a glass or two of some alcoholic confection - then go home and have a 'nightcap' .... we all know how the liquor lobby hates competition when they deliver death in a bottle - and then some ...

The two of them need to have a Grandmal seizure & see how the medics, doctors & pharmaceutical industries treat them! I had seizures for fourteen years, 32 different meds-and 9 doctors didnt care enough to TREAT my MEDICAL condition, OTHER than to DRUG me up into a near oblivion. ..whole time, I had a brain tumour! SO, WHY, WHY WHY can't people...KIDS get QUALITY TREATMENT, in a controled way? I have never "gottenHigh"... BUT, a little reading shows ME there Is a BIG difference between MEDICAL MARIJUANA & street pot!! You are SUPPOSED to be OUR spoaks people REPRESENTATIVES of our needs, its what we pay you $$//# for! Put the needs of someone OTHER than YOURSELVES...read alittle bit, and then take a trip to Pediatric Neurologic unit..and watch a 3 year old have repeated grandmal seizures! Then, MAYBE you'd see this from their point of view! I was a guennie pig for fourteen years! Yet, my "doctors"never saw a brain tumour! SiGH..to me, this is a no brainer..OH, WAIT! !!! I DO have part of mine missing now! THANKS to the concern of my medical professionals!

What rips families apart is people being put in jail for possessing a weed that grows all over the world

Julie Rosen. From Denver, Colorado. Yet, knows the "way of life" in Minnesota. Thinks weed "rips families apart." Yet, thinks divorce is perfectly fine. (She's divorced. Has three kids.)

I bet they have nothing against drinking which breaks up more families like mine as every day I'd meet her at the door she'd have a 12 pack under her arm with at least 3 to 4 gone in the 25 mile drive home from work. It cannabis is natural & God put it here to help us. You need to learn the true reason it was made illegal in the first place.

Destroy the way of life? Life where people get locked up for years for non violent drug offenses. Life with an ever more militarized police force. Life where we spend millions of dollars incarcerating sick people with drug addiction/ mental health issues. Life where sick people are denied a medicine thats effective with few side effects, and can be grown pretty much anywhere in the world. The war on drugs is a massive failure. Destroy away I say.

How can they say a direct attack on life in MN? Do they not have cancer patients, aids PTs, anorexic PTs? They created a drug called marinol aka Dronabinol, synthetically created cannabinoid. Copied from the chemical make up of cannabis. Pharmaceutical companies makes hundreds of dollars to sell marinol to PTs who have nausea, vomiting, weight/appetite loss.... I understand the concern of abuse, but alcohol is abused, credit cards are abused, lots of things in this world are abused. It boils down to people using good judgement. How can a plant that obviously has useful chemical compounds ruin a way of life. That's stereotyping . How can it ruin life when it helps those get through cancers, seizures, etc. Just curious... It's just not politically correct to say "it will ruin the way of life"

People are gonna keep smoking whether its legal or not. It would just be nice to be able to do so without fear of persecution. Plus the state would no doubt benefit.

Here's one for all those "religious" people who think marijuana is bad because of their "God". Pot is a plant that grows in the ground, if "GOD" didn't like it, it wouldn't be around. So tell all those people who don't get high, to shut the *bleeeeeeeep* up and give it a try!

David Bruning

Senators Rosen and Ingebrigtsen you know what REALLY "rips families apart?" is MN and our countries antiquated FAMILY COURT SYSTEM! WHo thinks it's ok to grant sole custody to one parent and fleece the other, all while lining lawyers and judges pockets!

Pure ignorance, and certainly not a representation of what the intelligent majority of people in this state want or believe. This is being driven by an agenda to keep weed illegal so cops and the justice system can continue to profit from it. Nothing more.

Yep, these two are idiots. They cite research from only one single PHD doctor. With the internet at our fingertips we have the ability to cross reference information like mad. Why aren't they doing that? Gov Dayton wanted to spend something like $2 million on a research study at the Mayo....why? Do some damn research on the internet....you'll find tens of hundreds of articles on the subject of marijuana. Stop wasting taxpayer money on research that's already been done all around the world....for the last 20 or 30 years already! And these so called "Representatives" should remember that WE ARE THE PEOPLE & we can end their career in a heartbeat! VOTE THEM ALL OUT!
