Investigators take photos at the crime scene this morning.
A gunman is still on the loose following a triple shooting that went down just after 1 a.m. this morning on the 3500 block of 5th Avenue South.

Police arriving at the scene following a report of shots fired found three adult male victims, two with non-life threatening injuries and another that had more serious injuries but is expected to live, Minneapolis Police Department spokesman John Elder told us.

The shooting happened outside. Two of the victims ran to neighboring residences seeking help, while a third ended up in a vehicle.

"We don't know if the vehicle was where the person went to take shelter or if that's where they were shot," Elder says.

ShotSpotter detected 16 shots fired in total, Police Clips reports.

Elder says police "have no reason to believe that this is random."

Asked how often triple shootings occur, Elder says, "It's infrequent... maybe once or twice a year."

I'm guessing since it's a triple shooting they're saying it is rare that happens. Not that shootings are rare in South Minneapolis....

Let them kill each other off. There's no changing there lifestyle. Thugs thugs and more thugs. We should supply them the guns. I'm sick about the crime. I give up...

Not as rare as one thinks, unfortunately. Glad they're all surviving...

That's what all that ruckus was. There was like a 15 minute parade of sirens going down Portland late, late.

Dude, you're fine.  The other people who replied are sheltered suburbanites.  Yeah it's a higher-crime area but the ghetto it certainly is not, you're not gonna get tagged by a stray bullet or get robbed half the times you leave the house or anything like that; unless you buy or sell drugs harder than marijuana, or are in a gang, your biggest concern will be property crime, which is a concern in most city neighborhoods in any large city.  I ride a bike that is really nice and expensive and LOOKS expensive through that intersection (and in fact, all along Portland Avenue, from downtown , through Phillips and Central, all the way to the 60's and the Richfield border) at 2 AM on a relatively regular basis and have never felt the slightest bit unsafe. Seriously, unless you stand around at 38th and Chicago for no visible reason in the early morning hours (in other words don't look like a corner boy/street dealer) , you will probably be just fine.

@Truth_Teller_1  What's sad is that you are most likely right. I am sure if you did some background searches on them, they are recipients of government assistance in one form or the other. But look at the good side. Their free Obamacare will pay for their hospitalization.
