Timberwolves' Dante Cunningham arrested for second time in week

-- Update at bottom --

Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham had a very eventful week. Unfortunately, most everything that happened doesn't bode well for his future employment as an NBA player.

Hours after a Wolves victory Wednesday night, Cunningham was arrested for domestic assault. The next day, he was charged with a felony -- his girlfriend told investigators "she felt like she was being strangled to death" during the alleged Thursday morning assault. That evening, Cunningham posted $40,000 bail, hopped a flight to Florida, and arrived in time to play a key role in the Wolves' Saturday night game in Orlando.

Cunningham, 26, played 34 minutes -- the most he's played in a game since February -- scoring 12 points and grabbing six rebounds in the Wolves' 100-92 loss.

"I talked to him and Dante said he wanted to play," Wolves coach Rick Adelman told reporters in Orlando. "I didn't see any reason why he wouldn't at this point."

But Adelman now has a better reason to sit Cunningham when the Wolves take the floor at Target Center against the San Antonio Spurs tomorrow night. Cunningham again finds himself in Hennepin County Jail this morning, as yesterday, he was arrested for the second time in a week, this time for allegedly making terrorist threats.

Hennepin County records indicate Cunningham was booked into jail at 12:24 p.m. yesterday. He's currently being held witout bail.

Reached for comment this morning, a Medina officer confirmed Cunningham was arrested in his town but offered no further comment. More information surrounding the circumstances of his latest arrest is expected this morning. We'll update this post accordingly.

:::: UPDATE ::::

Medina Police Chief Ed Belland got in touch this morning to provide a bit more detail about Cunningham's latest arrest.

According to Belland, officers were summoned to a residence at 472 Medina Road just after 3 a.m. yesterday on a report of "a possible violation of an order for protection."

"The victim reported she was receiving threatening messages from Mr. Cunningham," Belland says. "Officers arrived, reviewed the messages, and the threats were direct and rose to a terroristic level."

Cunningham turned himself in just before noon yesterday in Minneapolis. He gave his cell phone and computer to investigators.

The case remains under investigation, Belland says. No charges have yet been filed.

and as a FEMALE, getting as restraining order is as easy as 1,2,...just file a police report and say so and so makes you feel unsafe and show at least on text/email/call and claim that it's unwanted. NO pattern of behavior has to be established and no trial will ever occur (sure if you can find the $300+ to file and appeal). My experience was a crazy ex who was cutting herself so I called the STP but I was "detained" UNTIL she actually attacked the police!

Strange story, maybe he should stay away from this lady and save his career in professional sports.

The fact that you even POSTED the "N"word just proves my point. You just did call him that by using the word in this context. Racists use that term.

As far as professional sports goes, there is absolutely thug mentality. If I wanted to call him a nigger, I would. Pussy? Look in the mirror, racist.

He texted her. Let's not blow this out of proportion.

Shayne O'Neil, you're the one who made the comment.

How do you know she didn't bait him and then call the police??? Keep in mind; I've worked in the criminal justice field/corrections for several years. The baiting does happen. Besides that, people do stupid shit for the opposite sex. But in order for you to judge ANYBODY you need to be perfect. So are you?

Oh, and the "thug" bullshit is simple code by coward racists that are to pussy to say what EVERYONE knows they mean. All it does is cloud the issue by putting something into the discussion that has zero relevance whatsoever.

I too have seen guys get screwed over by the system as it is. That said, he obviously broke the "no contact" order in some way. That is why I judge him, simply for being stupid in that instance. Why continue to try to communicate with someone who brings out the worst in yourself? Dump their ass and move on rather than take a very public vilification. As for the team, it might be time to bench the guy for the time being and see how this all plays out.

A thug can be any color. Why, are you a racist ?

It has nothing to do with skin color! Its the lack of morals & values today!

Like this isn't happening all over in Corporate America. I find it unfortunate, but the people in the cube farms and offices have the exact same things happening to them.

If he was Caucasian would you say,"Can't take the trailer out of the trash" or "Can't take the hill out of the billy" or "red out of the neck". Seriously now; if he was Caucasian what would you say?

See, that state senator was right about if the NBA were on strike, no one would notice except for an uptick of crime. He's right, nothing but a league of criminals. Lock em all up!

The entire management of the Timberwolves should be ashamed and fired. The are quite clear about their priorities and the lives of women isn't one of them.

I'm sure Rigid Rick will still play this loser. 2 arrests in a week for this crap kind of says it all in relation to guilt/innocence.

You hate pro basketball because one player was accused of something?

Holy crap, I just found out a State Farm agent once did the exact same thing. That's why I hate auto insurance.

@eddogg67  Not really, but keep holding on to that antiquated notion.
