Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham is currently in Hennepin County Jail after being booked early this morning on suspicion of domestic assault in Medina.

According to Ed Belland, direct of public safety in Medina, Cunningham was arrested after police were called to his residence at 472 Medina Road at 4:01 a.m. this morning.

Cunningham "had left the scene but while police were investigating he returned, was arrested, and taken into custody without incident," Belland says.

The investigation is ongoing as this is published but Belland says "we should have a case down to the Hennepin County Attorney sometime today."

Cunningham, 26, is in his second season with the Timberwolves and his fifth in the NBA. The 6'8", 221 pound forward typically comes off the bench. He's chipped in six points and four rebounds per game this season.

Pioneer Press Timberwolves reporter Andy Greder notes that Cunningham wasn't in good spirits after the Timberwolves' 102-88 victory over Memphis last night, a game where he scored five points and grabbed three rebounds in 10 minutes of action: The Timberwolves released this statement addressing the situation:
"We are aware of the matter involving Dante Cunningham and are in the process of gathering more information. Dante will not be traveling with the team to Miami this afternoon. The Minnesota Timberwolves takes the matter very seriously and does not condone the type of behavior that is associated with this situation. However, we need to let the legal process run its course and will have further comment at the appropriate time."
Cunningham will be a free agent after this season. He's making $2.2 million this year.

As a survivor of domestic violence I was in a situation where my ex almost took my life twice. It's good to see the Timberwolves organization taking this issue seriously and not brushing it under the rug like so many people do. Also Lex Lambernt you're a dick.

There needs to be a no tolerance rule in all professional sports. Abuse of woman, children, and the special needs can not be tolerated.

Players in all 4 sports have more privilege and rights then they deserve. Just like auto unions, Rome will eventually burn.

Yea they are not saints, but that don't make beaten up on a women right either. He and all fucks like this should lose their job. It would be a tough lesson learned, but the reality check most of them need.

This is the cherry on top of the disaster of a Timberwolves season.  Adelman has done the worst job I've ever seen a coach do.  We gave up on Derrick Williams for this woman hitting asshole.  Despicable.   A guy that size needs to realize how deadly losing his temper can be.  I feel bad for whoever he attacked/threatened or whatever.

Daren- you are correct. I would suspend him with pay until he has seen his day in court. At that point you can reinstate him or cut him if you choose.

Nate, by that standard, every guy who has done this should lose his job. Not defending the guy, but the Wolves took the right action. Pro Athletes aren't saints, never were.

His job is safe. It's not like he defended gay people or anything.

@MicheleBachmann  Adelman is the worst coach ever AND you're still riding that D-Will dick?! You know as much about basketball as you do about being made of flesh and bone, you reactionary robo-retard.

@MicheleBachmann  I have to disagree. Kurt Rambis and Randy Wittman are way worse coaches than Adelman. Also we got Mbah A Moute for D-Will and not DC. Regardless, it was still a terrible terrible trade. It's a shame about DC because he is a pretty decent player for what he is paid.

@mingtran You can't even talk about basketball without being a bigot asshole.  Sexism, racism, homophobia and a hatred of disabled people.  You really are a great human being.

@Scoops This has been a pathetic year of coaching.    They never changed their rotations or play style to fix problems.  He chose to play a low upside player like Dante over DWill.  It's insane.  Not playing Dieng has proved to be a major mistake too.  Shabazz deserved more a chance than he got.  Seems like Adelman's solution to every loss was to the same thing again the next night.    If a black player gave as little effort as Adelman the entire media would be ripping him.  Adelman is a thief, he didn't do his job.   Whitman and Rambis didn't have the talent Adelman has.  No one has improved under Adelman.   Ricky Rubio has regressed which is insane because you can see so much potential.

@Scoops @MicheleBachmann  Rick Adelman has the same amount of championships as I do.  He's nothing special.  This year was a failure and it had everything to do with coaching.  That was a deep talented roster at the start of the year and he got nothing out of it.

@MicheleBachmann  Who knows why they traded D-Will but it seems that Adelman, Jim peterson and Flip all think that he was too inconsistent to get regular minutes. I would have rather kept him and played him sparingly then trade for Mbah A Moute. That guy is the worst. He has yet to make one exceptional play or have one good game that I can even remember.

A lot people have been questioning Adelmans rotations and maybe they are right but I'd like to think that a Hall of Fame coach knows his team better than you and I. My biggest problem with Adelman is his playing JJ barea way too much in the 4th quarter. Ricky may not be able to score as much but he is way better facilitating.

I agree with you that Shabazz and Dieng deserved way more minutes. Adelman is known for not playing rookies though.

As far as Rubio goes, I think he is progressing slowly. His shot is the one key thing he is missing from his game. Im not sure that's adelmans fault.
