:::: UPDATE :::: Alleged U of M meth cook's "friend" has a mugshot for the ages [PHOTO]

Former University of Minnesota research assistant Matthew Krause faces a first-degree methamphetamine manufacturing charge after police caught him cooking up a batch last Friday in the Minikahda Storage facility at 1441 Hunting Valley Road in St. Paul.

Krause, 30, could face more charges, as the U of M tells us it's investigating an allegation that Krause cooked meth on campus.

That allegation was made by Krause's friend, who called police last Friday from Minikahda Storage to report Krause was selling tools he'd stolen from him. He said he was scared to confront Krause because he was toting some sort of shotgun or long gun.

When officers arrived at the storage facility, they could smell "a strong odor of chemicals coming from inside" one of the units, Krause's criminal complaint says.

"The door suddenly opened and [Krause] emerged and appeared very surprised to see police," the complaint continues. "Officers saw a full methamphetamine lab in plain view... [they saw] liquid bubbling inside glass beakers and an exhaust fan at the back of the locker."

Krause was arrested. His friend subsequently described him as a heavy meth user who was living in a storage unit and had a habit of breaking into other units and stealing from them.

The friend said Krause "worked at the University of Minnesota or was some kind of a student there," the complaint says. But he allegedly did much more than that.

"Krause cooked methamphetamine in a lab on campus in the past and had stolen a lot of property from the university including chemicals," Krause's friend told authorities, the complaint continues. The friend "thought Krause was ordering chemicals from Russia via the internet so law enforcement would not be able to track his purchases."

Indeed, Krause's Facebook page lists him as a "Genetic Researcher" at the University of Minnesota. His profile picture, posted last December, shows him alongside some sort of scientific presentation:

U of M spokesman Chuck Tombarge says Krause was a student at the U's College of Biological Sciences, but he hasn't earned a degree or been enrolled since spring 2013. He was employed by the College of Biological Sciences as an undergraduate research assistant but his tenure ended on June 16 of last year.

The U says it has no record of Krause getting in trouble with campus police, but "as a result of the Ramsey County complaint filed against Mr. Krause, University Police are investigating claims and allegations related to University property or other alleged connections to the U," Tombarge says.

Funny how everyone has their comments.  Truth be told, we are all human and we all make mistakes.  No one should judge but God himself.

I do find it odd how we do not hear anything of the man that informed officials of this, and they do not talk about the gal that was arrested along with Matt.  Hmmm what is the real story folks...

Also for those that want to judge... if you have ever used, smoked or used tobacco, or had an alcoholic drink... you are no better than he.  Just because alcohol and tobacco is legal doesn't mean it is okay for you to go drink or smoke.   It is still a feel good substance that one puts into their own body.  I also must not forget those people that pop pills for any ache or pain that they may have.  If you take a pain reliever, it is a substance as well.   This is actually what helped create meth.  Just some food for thought to all those that feel they are better individuals.

My contract at that facility says you can't be there more than 30 minutes at a time (you punch a code to get in and out). How did no one notice he was living there??? I'm sure there is some wiggle room but still, creepy! Glad I didn't have anything stolen by this guy.

I wouldn't be surprised if the equipment found was that of the "friend" and that he had his employee, Mr. Krause, there on some errand that had nothing to do with what he is accused of being involved with....

The St. Paul police are being misled by a known manipulative narcissist that preys on women and children.  This is nothing more than a evil man trying to get out of his own felonies by destroying others that were associated with him.

A dangerous man is being allowed to roam the streets and will possibly end up killing people because he claimed to have "knowledge" (likely made up by him) of other people whose lives he  could ruin to try and save his own skin.  The whole story is not being told.

When teachers start manufacturing meth at school it probably just because they need a pay raise.

This "friend" is an illiterate, woman and child beating scumbag. A week before this he was holding a razor to his wife's throat. There is another issue at hand here, the one that is important. This scumbag is out of jail. Guilty of four violent felonies. I don't see Matthew Krause guilty of anything violent.

It looks like he sampled some of his own research.

Was Minikahda Storages not aware that someone was living in their storage units and stealing stuff from other storages? I put my stuff there a couple of years ago for a whole summer. I guess I won't be doing that again, as there is an obvious lack of security.

Details? Why is no one backing him up and giving out his "friends" name?

@Thehophead  If it allowed me to post a picture of the friend's mugshot from the week before, I would.  It says "don't do meth" all over his face. The friend was released from jail on a Monday for holding his estranged wife hostage after locating her new residence on a Thursday.  His charges were reduced to almost nothing and a 40,000 bond disappeared in the wink of an eye.   Can you guess why?  Oh, because he had "information". Apparently, St. Paul believes pathological liars will tell them the truth and will release them back into the world even when they were caught trying to kill someone.
