A 27-year-old woman reported the incident to her fiance on May 13. She said that while she was dressed in a patient's gown and lying on a massage table, Thompson, 54, climbed on top of her and raped her. He then continued working on her back without saying a word about what just happened.

After he was informed, the woman's fiance traveled to Thompson's office at 11 Little Canada Road East to confront him. Thompson subsequently sent the alleged victim a text saying, "I am sorry for how I treated you."
Police were eventually informed about the incident. The alleged victim told officers she'd known Thompson for about 10 years, and had been seeing him twice weekly during the past three years for treatment of pain and injuries connected with a car accident.
The alleged victim agreed to participate in a phone conversation with Thompson that police secretly recorded. Here, according to the criminal complaint, are some excerpts from that call:
During that phone call [Thompson] stated, "I'm sorry all this extra stuff happened." [The victim] stated, "I need to know why you had sex with me, you know I didn't..." The defendant interrupted and stated "I know you don't and I'm sorry I did that." The defendant then stated, "So I'm truly sorry, I mean that it's wrong, totally." [The victim] asked, "So what if I get pregnant because you didn't use a condom?" She then stated, "I am hurt over this and didn't want to have sex with you." The defendant stated "I know you didn't, I know you didn't."Thompson was arrested. During a post-Miranda interview, he confessed to forcing himself upon the woman, saying "he did not ask for her consent" before getting on top of her.
"He confessed that he has inappropriately touched her breasts three to four times during prior treatments, and that he has placed his tongue on her vagina two to three times during prior treatment sessions," the complaint says. "He reported that he has had complaints filed against him with the Minnesota Board of Chiropractors for boundary issues and inappropriate touching. He was placed on probation for four years. One of the requirements was that he had to always have someone in the office with him when he was with clients."
The alleged victim seconded Thompson's confession that he had acted inappropriately during prior sessions, but said she "did not try to stop him because she was afraid and was trying to block it out."
"She said that is how she copes with things," the complaint says. "She continued to go back to him for treatment because she was in a great deal of pain and she thought that he would stop his behavior."
Thompson faces up to 15 years in prison in connection with the third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge.
