Stupid tags are not street art
So you think it's Ok to Deface property that doesn't belong to you?
technically i pay for all graffiti to get cleaned up in my taxes... and opinions are like assholes everyone has one, no need to call me a fucking idiot because my opinion is different than yours.
Spoken like a guy that doesn't own any property.
The most important art is usually offensive. If it evokes emotion, even negative, it's probably intentional. If it makes you feel something, especially something strong, it's won and done is job. "Safe" art (art that knows is "place", I.e. created for museums/galleries, and stays there) is scarcely art at all, and usually becomes nothing more than academic or historic pieces. It becomes irrelevant, and therfore dead.
Art that offends, that scares, that wakes the mind and stirs the soul, is living art.
And that's why graffiti is art. In 2000 years they'll safely have this kind of stuff sealed away in museums where it stirs no one except a few academics. And there will be new kinds of art defacing property that causes old grumps to hem and harumph about this and that and kids these days.
I wonder if you realize by making a story out of it they got what they wanted? They got the spotlight now.
I agree I do not agree with defacing any property.
Art is art when it is done on items you personally own or control I want to do art on your property-what is your address?
No according for some people's bad taste And 2 wrongs don't make a right
I understand you trespass and mar/vandalized property you don't own you are a criminal, not an artist
Fair Game, James, your a Fucking Idiot!...Not if you had to pay to clean it up, Right? Spray your own property!
Most seasoned graff artists have more intelligence than to pull this whack shit. Rick, you clearly don't understand the art. Yes, this is fucked. However, don't judge all graff artists on the toys.
What a toy-ass throwup. Only toys pull that shit on something that's already beautiful.
thats why people are ripping street art off the walls and selling them in galleries?
art is art sorry you cant deal with what others think is art and a finely talented art at that.
Ok I will start Where do you live and what car do you drive I will create on your walls and on your cars windshield
There has been rape on college campuses for years as well-guess that makes it ok, right?
ANY piece of property that has graffiti on it is an example of vandalism; not art
Most places-as in most places that the graffiti vandal doesn't own? How about I come over and spray paint on your car's windshield?
I's art...AS a crime! ;)
There was graffiti on the 35w bridge memorial when I was there Sunday. Pretty disgusting act done by an untalented individual. Some people apparently need 24 hour supervision. Would love the city to address all the graffiti done to the train bridge on the St. Anthony Parkway too. A new large piece pops up at least once a week.
There's been graffiti there for years.
Fluff reporting rules the world. You'll fit in at cnn.com just swell.
Didn't that guy get picked up who was doing graffiti all over the metro area?
freights are fair game, dont like it dont look at them.
it's not art it's a crime.
Hard-hitting journalism here...
And Railroad Cars!
This wouldn't be as bad if the graffiti in question wasn't absolutely freaking terrible. I have met fourteen year olds that do better tags than that. Why couldn't these kids (I'm giving them credit and refusing to believe adults suck this much) have just gone to the ford bridge or the minnehaha spillway like everyone else?
Suggestion : Spray paint cans that can only be used by the original buyer example "Armatron Paint "
art is art hopefully we can see more of this kind....Everywhere
I believe the phrase is falls short, not flat. Idiot.
before it was Mill Ruins Park, the Mill Ruins had to have been the #1 spot for graffiti in the city. These guys are just taking the place back to its roots.
Not surprised this happened. It was inevitable. I have seen idiots climb over the fence to have their pictures taken there.
Stupid, stupid people... keep that off historical and natural treasures...
Yes. I know and approve.
Waste of print city pages.
I don't understand why people feel the need to deface public property. How would they like it if someone did that to their home, etc.? Very upsetting that people just do what they want and ruin it for everyone. Very selfish.
Time to start talking about The Law of Jante. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Jante
Brady, save your corny waxing on what is and isn't art. Graffiti is just plain old tired.
It's art AND a crime.
@kezaezy They should cut off his hand.
@kezaezy thats pretty unamerican, it wouldnt go over well
@kezaezy The Law of Jante is basically modern-day progressivism/liberalism/socialism.
@Truth_Teller_1 @kezaezy You should move to Somalia (or Alabama).
@kezaezy Oh please. Don't make me laugh. That is what the borg/GOP is.
@rusty_shacklefor: The take away is that community comes before me.
As we feel increaingly disconnected from community, we end up feeling like we don't owe it anything. Conversely, if we feel we are part of something bigger than our individual whims and desires, and that the 'something bigger' has expectatiions of us (such as raising children who will nourish -- and, in turn be nourished by -- the group) then our choices don't get made in this vacume where the only consideration is 'what I want.'
With video surveillance on every corner, and Internet spyware following our every key stroke, we're more watched than ever before...yet, ironically, we feel more free to act anonymously and as individuals with no stake in community.
Then again, sometimes people are just assholes.
