:::: UPDATE :::: Anoka County man set ablaze by landlord asked, "Why did Adam do this to me?" before dying

Yesterday afternoon, Anoka County deputies responded to a report of a landlord/tenant dispute at 1329 137th Lane Northwest in Andover. They left without arresting anybody, as "no crime had been committed at that time," according to information provided by the sheriff's office.

Around 9:40 p.m., authorities returned to the residence after receiving reports of a "possible house fire." Upon arrival, they found the "tenant" nearly burned to death. His "landlord," 29-year-old Adam Lilienthal, was arrested for allegedly setting the 55-year-old man on fire.

The victim -- his name hasn't been publicly released pending notification of his family -- was found inside the home with burns covering 80 percent of his body. He was rushed to HCMC, where he remains in critical condition today, Anoka County authorities say.

Though the chain of events that culminated in the fire isn't yet clear, authorities say Lilienthal doused the victim with a fire accelerant before purposely setting him ablaze.

Lilienthal had already left the scene by the time authorities arrived. A statewide law enforcement alert was sent out for his arrest, as it was believed he "had access to a cabin in northern Minnesota, near Orr," authorities say.

"The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office did locate the suspect on the road and took him into custody without incident," an Anoka County news release says. "The suspect had minor burns to his face."

An Anoka County courts official tells us Lilienthal hasn't yet been charged as this is written.

Fox 9's Leah Beno was in Andover doing some reporting on the story this afternoon. Here's a couple tidbits from her Twitter feed: We'll update this story after charges are filed.

I was on the phone with Scott when he was set on fire, I had no idea what I was listening to when Adam doused him in gas, just a lot of screaming for help and the sound of Scott falling down the fight of stairs from his bed room . . . . I will never forget what I heard over the phone that night.

@Jeff55414 Look at that face - he's obviously a Republican. Whether his meth-addicted ass ever makes it to the polls, I don't know. But he's one of yours!

@MNjoe Because I could make the argument that every time we hear about a black guy who commits a crime in, say, Minneapolis, I should assume that he is a Keith Ellison voter? See how much sense that logic makes?
