The Common Man proudly holds his CIty Pages 2013 FM Personality of the Year award in the Clear Channel office.
A documentary project promising a behind-the-scenes look at Minnesota's most esoteric radio personality is in the process of raising funds on Kickstarter.

As of yesterday, Common Man: The Ego Has Landed had raised just over $2,000 toward filmmakers Gregg Holtgrewe and Matthew Deery's goal of $15,000. The duo have until July 13 to get there.

"We want to get behind The Common Man and find out what he's all about... to see a different side of this 'Radio Romeo,'" Holtgrewe and Deery write on their Kickstarter page. "We will follow his journey from the tough-guy towns of Detroit and Coon Rapids to his days in Wyoming and back again."

Donors who pledge $250 or more get to play a round of golf with the Common Man, among other perks.

And if you're feeling really generous:

Without further ado, here's the trailer, which features "a couple thirteen fourteen" of the Best Of the Twin Cities awards we've bestowed upon the Common Man over the years:

Dan Cole's bits and "jokes" weren't funny the first time he said them, and 10+ years later, they are still awful. And yet he somehow has fans who will swear that it's supposed to be that way. I wonder, do these people really enjoy it after the 109,104 time he says the same tired garbage?

Mmmm so Private Parts meets Forest Gump. Sounds like a snoozer. I'd much rather watch a documentary of Jeff Dubay's implosion.

I find his bits to be awful, and his show to be unlistenable, but in a way I can understand the appeal.  Just don't make me partake.

I am a big sports fan, so I listen to KFAN every day.  My rule, however, it I only listen until I hear Common's voice, or a Kars for Kids spot.  Some days, I listen to KFAN for all of three seconds.

Nice hat douchebag.

Anyone that thinks Dan Cole is interesting or funny has terrible taste.  KKKFAN is just a bunch of boring white people talking about their kids while saying boring things about sports.

@MicheleBachmann I would rather see a 90 minute film in which The Taste Fairy gets hit by various cars and trucks while attempting to eat a delicious Subway 5 dollar footlong.

@digitalprotocol @ajlalk3 Thank you for giving me a perfect example of what I was talking about. If anyone calls him exactly what he is, which is terrible, people like you will say we "just don't get the bit." No, we get it. It would be impossible NOT to, since he's been doing the same exact thing for the last decade. He's a one trick pony, and that trick hasn't been entertaining EVER. But, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. talk radio in this market is a wasteland, so he'll most likely have a spot on KFAN for as long as he wants, because he definitely seems like the type who wouldn't mind phoning it in for a paycheck until he's 70.

@digitalprotocol @ajlalk3 Not surprised common man likes an unfunny douchebag like you.  Common man is stupid and boring.   Tommy Mischke is a million times better than that hack common man.

@ajlalk3 @digitalprotocol I hate that his stupid fans think he is trying something edgy or new.   The last time I listened to him he was talking about marijuana legalization.  I really care about that topic so I stopped to listen.   Common man read some stories basically saying marijuana would kill you or cause you to kill people.  I thought it was a joke but it wasn't.  It was just lame fear mongering but cowardly Dan kept saying he didn't care if it was legal.  Just that anyone that smokes it is a loser.

Also, his kids are stupid, boring, and not interesting.  No one gives a shit about the musings of children except for their boring parents.

@MicheleBachmann @digitalprotocol @ajlalk3 Mischke is the best, but you definitely get the feeling from him that he feels like he is in a rut. I cannot recall much memorable content from him since he left late night. When he was on his game, though, he was genius.

@EricLarsen @MicheleBachmann I haven't listened to him much lately.  Still he is the best thing I've ever heard on local radio.  I think Minnesota is really in the dregs for local radio.  KSTP and KFAN are just a bunch of boring dorks.  It's amazing to me that both stations seem to try to find the dorkiest whitest people ever born and then give them a radio show.   Phil Mackey?   Who wants to listen to a metrosexual idiot that watches reality TV and thinks Saved By the Bell is something worth watching.  Ugh, I only listen to podcasts and Opie and Anthony these days.
