Minnetonka Beach resident David Meder has been hit with a criminal vehicular homicide charge for accidentally running over his wife, Diane Meder, as he pulled into their driveway sometime around 8:30 p.m. last Thursday, killing her.

David Meder, 57, had slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol emanating from him when officers arrived at his residence, the charging document says. A breathalyzer pegged his blood alcohol level at .155, or nearly twice the legal limit. The results of a blood exam are still pending.

The charges say Meder was arriving home with his wife when he stopped to check the mail. As he looked through the items in his mailbox, his wife got out of the vehicle.

Meder later told cops "he did not remember [his wife] getting out of the vehicle, but as he made the left hand turn into the driveway, he then heard [her] yelling that he was running her over," the charges say.

When officers arrived, Diane, 57, "was conscious, but appeared to be in a great deal of pain," according to authorities. She told officers "it was an accident" before she was transported to North Memorial Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead just before 10 p.m.

After David was arrested, he told officers "he had a small business that was just turning the corner and this was going to ruin him." His bail was set at $150,000 and he's expected to make his first court appearance today.

Mr. Meder isn't looking good, even considering the circumstances.

Everything involving alcohol is an "accident" he doesn't have to worry about his business now.

@eyetod You know nothing about her. If you did, you'd know how many people she has helped. Have some human decency.
