:::: UPDATE :::: Lush co-founder Ty Hoffman is suspect in murder of former "life partner" Kelly Phillips

The man shot to death outside a Holiday Gas Station in Arden Hills has been identified by WCCO as Kelly Phillips, co-founder of Lush Food Bar in northeast Minneapolis.

According to reports, Phillips was riding in a black BMW that pulled into the gas station around 8:30 a.m. yesterday. Phillips and the driver got out of the vehicle and were arguing when the driver pulled out a gun and shot Phillips at least three times in broad daylight, including once execution-style in the back of the head while Phillips pleaded for his life. The driver then got back in the car and drove over Phillips on his way out of the parking lot.

The black BMW was found last night by authorities in Blaine, according to KSTP.

WCCO, citing someone who works near Phillips's home, reports that Philiips's boyfriend was seen being placed in handcuffs later in the day. Minneapolis Police Department spokesman John Elder confirms that the MPD did assist in that effort, but referred all further questions to Ramsey County authorities, who haven't gotten back to us as this is published.

The Star Tribune reports that no arrests have been made in connection with the murder as of last night, but adds that Ramsey County investigators were interviewing a "person of interest."

Meanwhile, friends and acquaintances are posting messages of grief and remembrance to Phillips's Facebook page.

"You had a passion to make Minnesota better," Jacob Reitan writes. "I remember so many events at your house where you advocated for causes and people you believed in. Minnesota is a stronger state because you lived in it."

That sentiment was echoed by Minneapolis City Council member Jacob Frey, who writes that Phillips was "always the voice of reason in the room."

"You were a good friend, and I know so many of us will deeply miss you," Frey adds.
