We already know that St. Louis Park's Coen brothers are geniuses of the cinema. And we know that their follow-up to "Fargo," "The Big Lebowski," has attained cult status. So what's left? Shakespeare.

A guy named Adam Bertocci has taken the Lebowski screenplay and translated it into "Two Gentlemen of Lebowski," with words befitting The Bard. The characters include Geoffrey "The Knave" Lebowski, "two thugs" named Blanche and Woo, Sir Walter of Poland, Sir Donald of Greece, Sir Geoffrey of Lebowski and his wife, Bonnie.

Wash. Post: Even St. Louis Park Jews love 'A Serious Man'

The Washington Post had a story Sunday looking at the Jews that actually live in St. Louis Park, not the ones portrayed in the Coen Brothers's most recent film, "A Serious Man."

And you wouldn't believe it, but these people loved the movie, idolize the Coen Brothers, and still love their hometown. Magical, really. What does St. Louis Park not have to offer? The community created several notables straight from a Jewish population of about 10,000 in 1967: Sen. Al Franken, NYT columnist and author Tommie Friedman, political polymath Norm Ornstein, and of course the Coen Brothers. Not a bad roundup.

From the Post:
I would try out to be an extra in "A Serious Man," and somehow meet the men who'd long served as living proof that just because you came from Minnesota didn't mean you had to end up as a citizen of Garrison Keillor's state-of-mind, which is apparently composed entirely of village idiots.
Nicely put. The story is actually written by someone who grew up in St. Louis Park, running the same streets at the Coen Brothers. So don't expect any "parachuting in" humor from a holier-than-thou Washington Post writer.

Lebowski Fest hits Minneapolis for the first time this weekend and there will surely be an invasion of Big Lebowski "Dude" cult fanatics to keep you entertained throughout the city. Grab your bathrobe, a bowling ball and head out this weekend for a white Russian. Thank you Coen Brothers for making it possible for scrub dudes to wear their normal outfits in pride. And probably get ladies in the process.

The weekend will kick off with a movie screening and music Friday night at First Avenue. Saturday will include a costume party and bowling at Memory Lanes.

Coen Brothers Walker movie screening tickets on sale

Categories: Coen Brothers
Last month we told you about the Walker Art Center's Coen Brothers retrospective and their appearance for the Regis Dialogue next month. The Twin Cities will welcome back our favorite filmmakers for the Walker's retrospective on their careers to mark the 25th anniversary of their debut film "Blood Simple".

Since most of us didn't even have access or the funds to see the Coen Brothers in person, we thought it might be more appropriate to attend some of the movie screenings in celebration instead.

The Walker announced the dates this week for the screenings of 13 of their movies and tickets are now on sale.

The movie was filmed in the Twin Cities and will be released here Oct. 2 following a Walker Art Center Coen Brothers retrospective.
