P2P users screwed by Comcast win $16 back

If you are a Comcast Internet subscriber who was screwed over when you tried to use a peer-to-peer application, you might have won a little Christmas miracle. Comcast finally agreed to pay up to $16 million to settle a class-action lawsuit that alleged the company slowed Internet speeds when subscribers used some types of file sharing programs. Of course they aren't admitting any wrongdoing, but will shell out the money anyway.

Want to get $16 for your pain and suffering? Here is how you qualify:
  • You live in the United States or its territories.
  • You have a current or former Comcast high-speed Internet account
  • You used or tried to use Ares, BitTorrent, eDonkey, FastTrack or Gnutella P2P protocols at any time from April 1, 2006 to December 31, 2008
  • AND/OR You tried to send emails using Lotus Notes any time from March 26, 2007 to October 3, 2007.
Bam, it's that easy. You can file your claim online here starting January 5th or download, print and mail your form. Download that form here.

For more information on the settlement, check out this site. The $16 doesn't exactly make up for the obscene prices they charge for the Internet, but we'll take what we can get.

It's Twin Cities Bike Walk Week, which means the metro area is trying their darnedest to get you to leave that four-wheeled metal monstrosity in your garage and give two wheels or your own two feet a try.

And the best way to get people to do that? Give them free breakfasts, cheap booze and discounted Twins tickets. Smart!

Thursday is Bike Walk to Work Day, so don't miss out on all the sweet deals available to people who pledged to leave their car behind, at least for some free stuff.

Attention all criminals: Load up two grocery bags with all of your incriminating documents and bring them down to Cub Foods Saturday. Several of the grocery store locations will offer free paper shredding.

So track down all of those fake checks you wrote, the illegal betting receipts, sappy love letters, and that pledge sheet for a donation you were going to send to your alma mater (you just wanted to get that annoying kid off the phone). It's time to live a crime-free life.

You're allowed to recycle two grocery bags worth of paper. The event will be from noon to 3 p.m. at 13 Cub stores: Stillwater, Maple Grove, Blaine East, Eagan West, Savage, Plymouth Vicksburg, Woodbury, White Bear Lake, Lake Street, Phalen, Cottage Grove, Apple Valley and Fridley.

Shred it like you mean it.

Get your lick on: Free Ben & Jerry's ice cream Tuesday

Grab your ice cream bibs, round up a gang of friends, and flex those tongue muscles. It's almost Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry's.

Trust us: This is the very best day of spring. Who cares if you have to stand in line for 30+ minutes for a free cone of ice cream you could pick up in a pint at the grocery store? It's free and delicious and you get to watch stressed out scoopers sweat on your dessert. Totally worth the wait.

Minnesota is so sick of the expenses associated with educating our children that one lawmaker is proposing the state pays them off for finishing early.

Finish high school early and get a check for up to $7,500 from the government. Sounds good, right? Not exactly.

Staying in high school and working the system might end up paying off more than you'd think.

The best thief wins!
