We lost again. And, for the first time in 2 years, have lost 2 in a row.
Well, it was a great run....being 3-0 there for awhile. City Pages has hit a snag in the run for a division title. We lost again to a very solid Three Crowns club who were dead on most of the night. Once again, as has become our signature the past few weeks, we spotted the opponent an 8-3 lead before getting to within 8-6 on the last end. No late end heroics to bail us out. Final score 12-8. By the way, the weather was absolutely perfect. Those who didn't come out missed a brilliant Minnesota evening downtown!
The lossputs us at 3-2 with 2 regular season games left. Three other teams are 4-1, which makes winning the division a bit of a long shot for us. That said, we could still squeak in 2nd place and a spot in the league championships.
Next week: OFF FOR THE HOLIDAY. The team will be conducting closed door strategy meetings during the week off to assess the losing streak and rally for the last 2 games.
Next Match: Monday July 12th against Amex Securities at 7:30pm.

Early this morning, the White House released the top note, allegedly from National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice to President Bush, who was attending a NATO meeting in Turkey. We're led to believe Bush scribbled the phrase "Let Freedom Reign!" but our undercover operative (a Turkish busboy we passed a copy of "Juggs" to) was able to recover the real note from under Bush's asparagus-filled napkin.

The CP lawn bowling crew pose below the standings prior to last night's defeat.
Parity.
That's how to explain a 3-0 team losing to an 0-3 team. It's our yearly destiny... start off 3-0 and lose to the 0-fer team in game 4.
Congrats to Gray Plant Mooty as they knocked us off by a score of 11-9 Monday night. Actually, CP didn't really deserve to be that close in the match. Nevertheless, it came down to the last end where we had a chance to tie... only to be denied, losing the end... and the match.
Good news is our friends at Urban Bowling Crew took care of Amex Securities so City Pages remains tied for first and in a log-jam with at least 2 other teams atop the standings.
Next opponent: Three Crowns 6/28 at 6:30pm.

Sometimes.....its ok to steal things.
Well, at least in Lawn bowling anyway..... as City pages STOLE last nights game from Dorsey & Whitney!
Not sure how, but your City Pages squad eeked out a fantastic OT win over Dorsey & Whitney in what was one of those head-scratching "how did we manage to win that?" type o' game! Thanks to Dorsey for being gracious opponents (even bought our drinks!)by calmlyaccepting the strange turnaround in the late ends and OT.
Game Summary: Your City Pages squad found themselves unable to hit a the broadside of a barn until about the 8th end where we managed a couple points. Score was 8-3 in favor of Dorsey going into the 10th end (theres only 12 in a match mind you). We clawed our waythrough the10th and 11th ends to an 8-6 deficit heading into the 12th. In the 12th, with new momentum on our side, we found a way forto get that magicaltwo points to send us to aninprobable Overtime! And then, it got even weirder.... on the first OT end, Dave/Pam swept the end with a 4 pointer!!(what?!?$$#) And that pretty much secured the OT win. (Another end was played as was agreed upon before OT started but the score in OT was 4-1 game over) Attached are the end by end results.
So, we're 3-0 baby! Woo hoo! We hear Chuck and the Urban Bowling Crew did not fare as well so dreams of an undefeated matchupagainstthem has been dashed for now.
Next week City Pages takes on another law firm: Gray Plant Moody at 5:30pm on Rink 4. The weather has definitely picked up so get on out and root us on!!
Cheers,
Skipper Solie

President Bush recently announced the creation of a new cabinet-level department, the Ministry of Silly Walks, in his ongoing effort to battle terrorism. Following the announcement, the president and newly-nominated Secretary Cleese, demonstrated the "Silly Walk to Victory Against Terrorism" which will be performed during the opening ceremonies at the Republican National Convention, followed by a three-hour tribute to Ronald Reagan.

The City Pages lawn bowling team, l to r: Pam Solie, David Micko, Jewel Brown-Micko, Steve Solie
Team City Pages is off to another promising start in the BBC with win #2 in as many games this season!
Our Week One win seemed like last year, being off the last two weeks with rain and then Memorial day. Thanks to Dave and Pam's point winners, we beat Crescendo Ventures 15-8 on a warm and sultry evening out in the English Garden. Despite the lack of point winners, Steve & JBM held their own against very formidable tossers at their end of the rink to limit the damage.
Next week's match: Monday, June 14, 8:30pm start time against Dorsey & Whitney.
Last year Dorsey avoided a forfeit by bringing in ringers from the Palm Brothers squad at the last minute. Justice prevailed, however, as we managed to beat them anyway. We'll see what happens in this years matchup. If you recall, last year we tied with Dorsey at 5-2 at seasons end and won the tiebreaker thanks to the head to head match play results.
See you next week!

Having one of our American Idle toadies working the Jell-O counter in the cafeteria of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has finally paid off! Smuggled safely out of the hospital in a cardboard tube wedged in his rectum is the very first sonogram of Julia Roberts' twins. Congratulations, Julia, hope they eventually have your eyes!
