Lila Lipscomb: "I would have chained myself to the White House."

Filed under: American Idle , American Idle

City Pages Blotter has a quick interview with Lila Lipscomb, the mother of a soldier killed in the Iraq war who was featured in Fahrenheit 9/11. She's on a nationwide speaking tour sharing her thoughts on the war and those who favor it:

You know, people that have not lost anybody in this war, it hasn't touched them. And so, they sometimes seem to be very opinionated about the war. And the reason that I'm out there is so the war doesn't end up touching them. I don't want them to have to learn things the way I had to learn things in losing a son. You know, and I still say, 'you know, we live in America, and America was founded on democracy, and they have a right to their opinion just like I do.' But don't be afraid to come to the table and have a conversation.

Man Charged for Having Sex With Teen Wife

Filed under: Cracker Watch , Cracker Watch

LINCOLN, Neb. -- A 22-year-old man faces criminal charges in Nebraska for having sex with an underage 13-year-old girl, although he legally married her in Kansas after she became pregnant. The man's lawyer said the couple, with their families' support, "made a responsible decision to try to cope with the problem." Which problem? The fact that the man couldn't keep his hands off a 13-year-old girl? That you can legally marry a 13-year-old girl in Kansas? That he didn't take precautions to ensure his wife, who should be in 8th grade learning creationism, would not have a child?

Man accused of killing his 'gay' baby son

Filed under: Cracker Watch , Cracker Watch

TAMPA, Fla. -- Ronnie Paris would shake, wet himself and vomit as his father forced him into a box and repeatedly slapped him on the head in an effort to prevent him from being gay, the child's mother, Nysheerah Paris, testified Monday. The boy was 3 years old when he died from swelling on both sides of the brain on January 28. Here's hoping the dead child's father, Ronnie Paris Jr., spends the rest of his life being someone's bitch in the state pen.

Drinking Liberally in St. Paul tonight!

Filed under: American Idle , American Idle

Muddy Pig:

From Robin Walkenhorst at Drinking Liberally: This week's Drinking Liberally will be [tonight] at The Muddy Pig on Selby and Dale in St. Paul, 6-9 pm. Nick Coleman has been gracious enough to agree to try and stop by for a pint, seeing as we brought it across the river for the week.

We will be back to our regular digs at Lyle's on the 27th, and hopefully they will have fixed the air conditioning.

St. Paulites, you have no excuse this week. We'd better see you there, or I may get stern.

I actually do have a really lame excuse for not making it tonight, but if my duties permit, I'll try to get down there before 9.

Adoption agency rejects Catholic parents

Filed under: Cracker Watch , Cracker Watch

JACKSON, Miss. -- A Christian adoption agency that receives money from Choose Life license plate fees said it does not place children with Roman Catholic couples because their religion conflicts with the agency's "Statement of Faith." Let the American Holy War begin! Everyone wants the U.S. to be a Christian nation, as long as it's their sect of Christianity. You know, the right one.
